Rooms under the galley?

Is it bad to have a room booked under the galley? I just booked a room on carnival dream and this was the only room option I could choose to be near my party and its directly under the galley, what exactly is the galley? The area everyone walks? Is cove balcony rooms under the galley really noisy? I am traveling with light sleeper young kids so I am concerned but I keep reading things from people saying it can be noisy under the galley. Our room is under and all the way at the very end of the galley, right near the elevators.

Also, I notice the room we booked is an adjoining room, is this a bad thing? We won't know who is in the connecting room but why am I reading reviews about "thank goodness our adjoining neighbors were quiet"...aren't the connecting room doors locked if you don't know the people next to you? How is that any different than not having an adjoining door? How would that be noisier if the door is shut? I don't get it...now I'm a bit worried about that.

Just realized the galley is the kitchen, ugh, I hope its not crazy noisy, I bring a white noise machine for sound but idk.

We are probably the most laid back travelers that exist. Been on almost 30 cruises and we are so happy to be away, we don't get too fired up about anything. BUT, we were under the lido buffet once and the rolling carts at 4am, while they were getting ready for breakfast was enough for us to say no way to ever being under busy areas again. Then, last cruise, we were OVER the casino bar stage. It was like every trivia game was in our room. The music in the evening didn't bother me as much as the afternoon trivia during (my) nap time! So we are always very conscious of where our room is. Long story short, if it were me, I would not book under the galley.

Unfortunately in our circumstance we don't have much of a choice. Our family wants a cove balcony room but our whole family cannot all fit in 1 room so my brother is coming and is getting an interior room and will have 2 of my kids with him, I have to be located near my kids, one of them will only be 2.5 years old. All the interior rooms near the cove balconys only fit 2 people except 2 rooms, 1 was booked, both directly under the galley, so to be near my kids we had to take this but this will be the longest cruise I have ever taken and we will have spent more than we ever have before on this one and I am even more worried now :(

My guess is that with kids, even the lightest sleeper will be so exhausted from all the fun activities, they'll sleep through anything. You see it every night in the dining room with exhausted kids falling asleep at dinner! If you can't change it, no point in worrying about it. Be prepared, bring ear plugs, noise canceling machine, be willing to try out the different rooms you have access to - one might be quieter than another.

I understand you have no choice, but as others have said bring ear plugs!!

We wanted to try a cove balcony and the only one available at that time was under the galley........NEVER again! We are not light sleepers but the thumping and clanging went on all night!

Our rule of thumb for booking cabins are making sure there are always cabins above/below us......and from now on that is the only kind of cabins we will book.

But that being said......you just have a blast and get the kiddo's all tired out with all the many fun daily activites and I'm sure they will sleep through anything......enjoy your cruise!!!!

I dont know why its important to have your cabin that close with your sailing party-- its not like you are able to hang out in each others cabin.

I would move- especially if you are located towards the middle of the galley.

it just is not worth the noise to be close to family members

galley runs 24 hours a day and can be quite busy starting at 4am with the prep for breakfast

connecting rooms - there is a door in the cabin that goes to the cabin next door. Yes the door locks but the doors do not sound proof a room.

you could be next to a cabin with unruly teens while the parents are across the hall.

you could be in a room with a couple celebrating 70 years of wedded bliss and they can not hear a thing-- meaning the tv will be very loud-- or the conversations be loud

I will have a baby in the room with my brother, I will have to walk over there to bathe him, I have to have the baby monitor on him so it can only reach a short distance, therefore I need them close, and if he wakes up crying, I will have to come into their room to soothe him, I'd rather not walk 15-20 rooms down the hall to soothe my baby in the middle of the night, this is the reason its mandatory that we are very close in rooms.

I may regret my decision but we have to stick with what we have, no other options. We are at the very end of the galley, like right where it almost turns into the dinning room.

What I find odd is there is a review on the cove 2 doors down from me, person raved, said it was so quiet (directly under galley) and no noise issues. Then a person in the cabin directly next to that one, and my booked room said it was beyond noisy, couldn't sleep from all the clanging?? I don't get how they can be so different on reviews.

I don't believe the walls are sound proof either so is their really that big of a difference between having the connecting door there instead of a wall? We had connecting balcony's with my brother earlier this year but he can't afford it on this ship, has to go with interior this time, but I never heard him or my kids in the connecting balcony and my babies (twins) cried several times, just didn't get how a door was any different than a wall, on past cruises I've heard people through the walls too.

I wish! We booked it so far out so we could get the most options on the rooms but its still so limited with how many people are in each room, we have 3 booked near each other. I booked room 2396, almost at the very end of the galley on the left side.

Have you tried calling Carnival to see if there are any other cabins available that meet your needs? Personally, I wouldn't want to be under the galley, especially with kids who may need to take naps.

Keep checking the website - cabins may open up as people cancel or switch to other decks.

There are more 4 people inside cabins at the front and back of the ship so don't exclude those from your search!

Our cruise is 1 year out so we pretty much had our pick, the ship is only 10-15% full so that really isn't the problem, the problem is there isn't any cabins on the main deck on the dream in the back that fit more than 2, only 2 rooms mid ship fit 4 and the rest are all up front which won't work because we are getting a cove balcony, all the coves are mid ship, none in front, so we are completely limited to the rooms we got to be near my kids, I actually just switched to room 2388 because I was afraid of being connected to a persons room that I didn't know and my original room was a connector, I am still under the galley but there was a review on the exact room I am in and they claimed it was quiet, hoping they are right!

Yep, I have been on the phone with a rep 3-4 times now, to get a 4 person interior across from a cove balcony, there is only 1 room option which is under the galley, there was one other room that fit 4 across from the coves but its booked but it was no better, under the galley too. Out of all the interior rooms on main deck with the cove balcony's, only 11 rooms fit more than 2, the rest all only fit 2, but 9 of those 11 are all way up at the very front of the ship, 10-15 rooms away from the cove balcony's, we are stuck. Holding out hope that a review I read on the room we're in is true, they said it was very quiet, even though it was under the galley.

I was on the Dream in August in a cove balcony and did not notice a lot of noise coming from above. There were the occasional bumps and scrapes, but it was not enough for me to use my earplugs. There was more noise from outside the cabin by passing passengers than from the galley. I hope your trip will be a quiet as mine:D

The last time i was on the Fantasy we had a room under the galley and I never heard anything. Maybe this was the one week they didn't work, I don't know. lol But since there were three of us in the room, i was the one in the bunk so if anybody would have heard the slightest sound it would have been me.
