anyone know if you can get a birth certificate in a day???

If they were born in the state in which they live, have them contact their local Health Dept. to get a certified copy. Otherwise........??

I still live in the city where I was born. I went down to the health dept. and paid the $, they gave me the birth cert. right then.

You can go right down to the town/city hall where you were born and get a certificate on the spot. Just remember it has to have a raised seal.

Thanks...I know our local Department of Health and Vital Statistics gives them same day but not sure if Phildephia does.... l;ooked on thier site and it did not say anything ......

Not all states issue birth certificates at city/town hall! Call ahead to be sure.

Go to the PA Vital Statistics web site there are about six offices around the state you can walk into before 2pm and get it the same day. One is in Scranton near you. You don't need to go to Philadelphia.

Please allow sufficient processing time for walk-in services. Same day processing is not available for genealogical requests. Persons requesting same day processing should be at the office no later than 2:00 p.m.

Actually ...the birth certificate is for somone from Philadelphia.....

Unfortunately he is not related so I can not get it up here in Scranton....

I will call this morning and see how Philadephia is with birth certificates...

If PHiladelphia can't accomodate the Pennsylvania office of Vital Statistics has an office in Philadelphia about a mile N of City Hall and it should be able to produce on a walk in basis.

You can walk into the State Office Building in downtown Pittsburgh and get one (that's where I got mine), so I have to think you can do the same in Philadelphia.
