Getting C&A status before first cruise

Recommended Posts

Is it normal that we got our C&A numbers and Gold status but have not yet sailed? We have never sailed on Royal Caribbean before. First cruise will be on Nov 29 on the Oasis. DH and I received our C&A numbers via email today and I was able to activate them and our accounts now show Gold Status. Is it normal to get it before you cruise? I was not expecting to reach Gold until after the 1st cruise.

Thanks

Jess

I've not heard of people getting C&A numbers before their first cruise, unless they got them from being linked with a significant other, or from reciprocity with Celebrity.

If from Celebrity, your level would have been at least Platinum, so I'm stumped.

This is what the email said. I am not complaining, any extra benefit is good with me, I was just surprised. We have never sailed on Royal or Celebrity.

Did you enrol in the C&A Society or did they automatically send it to you? I tried to enrol my husband after I read this post. His first cruise is in December but it said he had no eligible sailings. That makes sense since we haven't done this cruise yet.

They sent me an email that had my C&A number on it. DH got one too. When I got the #s I went to the C&A site to activate them. When I login to Royals site, it now says we are Gold. The "discounted" rates were the same as the ones on the standard site so it looks like we don't get those yet

They are now letting you register for a C & A number before you cruise. Since there isn't anything lower than Gold, it sounds like you're Gold now if you have gotten a number.

Hey Beth,

How are things going? Interesting that they are doing this.

Did you have fun in the UK?

This would be new as well in our experience. Perhaps they are now letting you preregister - or are assigning a membership - with a first booking in place. But I would be curious to see if they actually provide any of the Gold on board coupon benefits on your SeaPass card, even if they are showing your level as Gold prior to the first cruise.

The tier level status has always been driven by actual cruise points earned, which are only accrued after each cruise is completed. Typically the base level of 3 points for the Gold tier level would not be achieved until after a first cruise was taken.

The email clearly indicates what Gold would provide, but I wonder if that is actually a confirmation of what will be available on the first cruise. That would definitely be something new. Please report back after your Oasis cruise to confirm any actual tier level benefits that you receive on board.

I will definitely report back if I get any of the benefits - not that I would even know - I am not even really clear what Gold entails.

I do not show with any points at the moment. It says I have 0 Completed Cruise pts with 30 required for next level.

If it shows no points, then you will not likely receive any on board benefits. As mentioned you will need 3 completed cruise points to receive benefits as a Gold member, and those will not be accrued to your account until after you have completed your cruise. The 30 points mentioned as required for the next level is to reach Platinum.

It would seem as though Crown & Anchor is allowing you to receive a membership in advance of your cruise but at 0 points, it is likely just a members ship with no earned benefits. Providing a membership number now just makes it simpler to process your first earned cruise points by not having you wait until after your cruise to join.

Here is a link to the C & A page on the RCI website describing the program and each tier level in case you have not seen this. Each night on board with your cruise will generate 1 cruise point. (2 pts. if you are staying in a Junior Suite or higher category. They also provide and additional point per night if you are traveling solo in stateroom category designated for two or more passengers).
