For our AMA cruise of the Douro River next September, we fly on Delta from Atlanta to Amsterdam and on to Lisbon. There is a 2 hour and 10 minute scheduled layover in Amsterdam. Is this enough time????

As long as your flight leaving Atlanta is not delayed, you should have plenty of time in Amsterdam. Schipol Airport is very efficient. We've had layovers there and had lots of extra time, as the security is at your gate, so you are only contending with the people on your flight, not the hoards at the entire airport or terminal. So, although the airport is huge, and it may take a bit of time to get to your gate from your first flight, check-in and security for your connecting flight should be fairly painless and quick.

should be plenty of time But when we arrived from the US on our way to Budapest ( this was our FIRST entrance into the EU) we went through passport control and security in a general area very fast.....our luggage had been check through to Budapest. We were also able to bring duty free alcohol from US through Amsterdam and onto the next flight.

When we LEFT Amsterdam for home they did security/passport check at the gate!!!!

I looked at US Air, but their planes from Charlotte to Lisbon don't have individual seat entertainment systems (just the big overhead movie screen) and no 2-seat rows (all at least 3 seats). Not exactly appealing for an 8-9 hour flight.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just did it last week. It is tight. We were in economy comfort so off the plane before 200 other people. So that help. As others posted you do have to go through passport control ( can be a long line) as well as security at the gate. They were making sure all cords to electronic devices were out ( not just computers) camera, etc, it really was slowing down the process. This is more going into the US, not the other way around. It is doable, but be prepared to miss your flight if you have any delay.
