Wang wangs?

I heard a rumor than HAL no longer serves this great drink. It's certainly not my go to drink, but I do enjoy having a couple during a cruise.

Can anyone confirm or deny this nasty rumor?

Consider the myth busted. This is from the Ocean Bar on the Nieuw Amsterdam last week.

Several posters have reported it not available on Westerdam, but it is available on other ships.

I'll be sailing on the Westerdam Christmas Cruise and will report back. Hopefully, someone will provide this important :D info sooner.

Cruise long and prosper...

I mentioned that a HAL bartender gave us a couple of additional drink options that were stranger than a Wang Wang a few years ago. He described one as "kicking like a mule" and the other as "kicking like a stallion." The "mule" was lemon flavored, and not terribly memorable. The one that kicks like a stallion is chocolately and my DSIL likes it so much like DBIL carries the recipe in his wallet on a card.

The drink is called a "Bushwhacker" and it's similar to the recipes you'll find on the interwebs, but does not contain coconut. (DSIL does not do coconut.)

Bushwhacker from Zuiderdam, circa 2003.

  • 1/2 oz Light Rum
  • 1/2 oz Dark Rum
  • 1 oz Kahlua
  • 1 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
  • 1 oz Bailey's Irish Cream
  • 1/2 oz Amaretto
  • Ice

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in blender

Optional: Top with Whipped Cream

My guess is that this recipe makes 2 drinks, since there is 4 1/2 ounces of alcohol in it. However, only the rums are 80 proof, and the rest are fairly week. You probably want to limit yourself to fewer than a dozen of these at one sitting. :D

Here is a recipe for a Weng Weng. I'm not sure if HAL's Wang Wang is the same thing, but I have my doubts. It looks like you pretty much need to empty out the liquor cabinet to make a Weng Weng. LOL

Weng Weng Recipe

Ingredients

3/4 oz Vodka

3/4 oz Tequila

3/4 oz Brandy

3/4 oz Bourbon Whiskey

3/4 oz Scotch Whiskey

3/4 oz Rum

cubes (Fill to Top) Ice

1 oz (Fill With) Orange Juice

1 oz (Fill With) Pine Apple Juice

1 dash Grenadine

Those should read 1/4 oz for the HAL Weng Weng.

This sounds more like a "Whack Whack" ;) :D
