freedom of the Seas arrival is delayed

Recommended Posts

We are going on the Freedom tomorrow. We were on it earlier in the month. We left Cozumel on time, had an extra hour of sailing due to going to Standard time and we still had problems getting back and getting off the ship. We ran at least an hour late and people were coming out of terminal 10 after 11 AM. The Port has changed the traffic pattern delaying the vehicles. Now with this extra delay, who knows when the current passengers will leave the terminal. They do not allow new passengers go into the building until the baggage area is cleared.

RC was rude to me on the phone. My travel agent says they only plan on giving us a $250 credit per room and a 25% off future cruise. Also they are rerouting because they do not want to be too far away from a port. They are concerned about the engine that had to be repaired and don't want to be far out at sea.

We are concerned about getting on a ship they are not confident can make a longer journey.

I could buy that story if they were just going to Nassau and Coco Cay but they are still going to Cozumel.

2.5 days in Nassau? Ouch.

Interested to see what kind of compensation they hand out. That would not be a cruise for me… stuck in the same place for so long is no fun.

Hope they allow FR to open casinos -- should compensate more than $250 OBC and 25% off future cruise. should double that

I'm going to ask for More onboard credit. Because $250 isn't much. I mean we are loosing two sea days and Staying In Nassau. Porting for 2 days in the same place isn't a cruise. I know the ship needs to be fixed. This is also me and my parents first time on Royal Caribbean and this isn't the best first Impression. I've heard nothing but great things about Royal Caribbean. I'm Really hoping this won't ruin it. I'm Still Excited.

wow, $150 for this crap, considering Royal has known issue with this boat as I found out after I booked? I will tell you this, Carnival learned their lesson a while ago to compensate their customers fairly for such an issue, and Royal has done nothing of the sort. Mark my words Coco Cay will also be missed...! Not a good first and last impression upon my family.

I agree and we can hope that Royal will see this error and make an adjustment. My plan when checking in tomorrow is to ask this for a written letter signed by Royal with them admitting to the mechanical issue and they will assume all issues this causes me and my family until we are safely back in port at Port Canaveral.

Not going to happen. A change of itinerary isn't going to cause safety issues. If you feel strongly otherwise DON'T GET ON THE SHIP. Use your travel insurance to reimburse the costs.

Royal is specifically changing the itinerary BECAUSE of a mechanical issue with their ship. Because of this mechanical issue the ship can not reach the speed that is needed to sail to St Thomas and St Marrten in 7 days. This is THEIR issue not an act of god (weather) that is out of their control.

Ship happens. Read the cruise contract.

Shop hours for the next cruise have been posted. Looks like they are estimating a noon arrival to Cozumel as the shops will be open from 9 am to arrival . It may only be a six hour call to Cozumel. The Captain have been blaming the various delays during the last two sailings on strong currents. I had a feeling that it was a mechanical as there have been a lot of times the vibrations were strong to the point everything in the olive and twist were shaking . If you are up there for a drink. You may want to hold on to it as it may slide across the table.. Also one of the elevators in the port side centrum bank was shaking aswell. I never felt that kind if vibration on liberty or independence.

CARRIER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INJURY, DEATH, ILLNESS, DAMAGE, DELAY OR OTHER LOSS TO PERSON OR PROPERTY, OR ANY

OTHER CLAIM BY ANY PASSENGER CAUSED BY ACT OF GOD, WAR, TERRORISM, CIVIL COMMOTION, LABOR TROUBLE, GOVERNMENT

INTERFERENCE, PERILS OF THE SEA, FIRE, THEFTS OR ANY OTHER CAUSE BEYOND CARRIER'S REASONABLE CONTROL, OR ANY ACT

NOT SHOWN TO BE CAUSED BY CARRIER'S NEGLIGENCE.

so the question is "beyond the carrier's reasonable control? RCCL knowns the ship has mechanical issues and they are not small and yet they are choosing to sail with passengers? Negligent?

If you strongly believe royal can not ensure safe passage don't get on the ship and file a claim on your travel insurance.

I get it you are upset by the itinerary change. That's understandable.

But if you think some check in agent has the legal authority to sign what you want them to sign and that Royal is going to cough up big bucks you are 100% mistaken.

to be honest I for one don't care about the itinerary at all. We cruise to cruise and only pick the sail date based on what works for our schedule and not the destination at all.

I was surprised that Royal (at this time is not offering cancellations) not that i am looking to do so. We have travel insurance but would not cover us if we wanted to cancel (if we wanted to) as it is not a policy that permits cancel for any reason coverage.

Royal has known the FOS has had this issue for sometime and instead of canceling sailings fixing it they are choosing to continue to operate a ship that may or may not have further issues while at sea. Offering their guests a very small OBC (which is giving you money to spend on their ship on their stuff) seems less than good customer service. Offering a 25% future cruise credit that is only good for 1 year is not much to a family that may have saved for a few years for their vacation of a life time and may never sail again.
