How does onboard credit work

Hi,

I booked an RCI cruise that gives me $200 onboard credit. How does this work? Do they simply take it off my ship card account purchases? Do I need to do anything special to redeem it? Can it be used to purchase anything onboard (ie. booze, excursions, gratuities, etc)?

It's simply a CREDIT against any charges you make. If you have $200 OBC, the first $200 you spend will be covered by the OBC.....You can't specify what to use it for, as it really makes no difference. The 1st $200 you spend is taken care of.

Anything onboard, just remember the key word, "onboard" and you'll be fine. So it won't work for prepaid gratuities, excursions or specialty dining booked ahead of time since those must be paid for when booked.

Enjoy the credit!

My wife and I just returned for the Maiden Voyage of Quantum of the Seas - (Nov 2 - Nov 10). We had a great time with "on board credit." I had $100 for booking the cruise and I cashed in 50,000 points for an additional $500.00 "on board credit" so we would have had $ 600.00. Due to some glitches the first couple of days - Royal Caribbean added $ 650.00 to our account raising the "on board credit" amount to $1,250.00 and we had a great time spending it all. We had several spa days and spent a lot in the spa. We spent a good bit in the shops. The tips had been pre-paid and the internet fee of $160.00 was returned due to poor internet service so tips and internet did not come out of that $1,250.00. Would we have spent that much if my credit card was going to billed for it at the end of the cruise??? NO!!! We would told that we could cash some of it in at the casino and what we didn't spend could have been returned to my credit card. It was fun spending it and it applied to anything added to the account while on board ship. Great fun.. :)

It is simple...Royal basically is giving you a $200 credit against anything you put on your seapass account, including the daily tips that will accrue on your account....it is simple.

See you on the Valentine's Day cruise aboard Indy!

  • 1 month later...
Will you see the credit anywhere in your account/reservation prior to getting on the ship and seeing it in your account then?

If it is an OBC issued by Royal it will appear on your copy of the guest booking invoice. You can request a copy of this from Royal if you booked direct with them otherwise contact yor TA.
