It was downright cold!!! We hit a blizzard going and coming home. The drives were not fun, but the cruise sure was.

 

 

Yes, it won't be long until we're looking at that again, and I'm not looking forward to it one bit. I'll take that Caribbean with you. :D

From the boat on the way to Stingray City, there were Iguanas lounging all over everybodies docks. This guy was pretty big!

Ok I thought about sailing out of NJ in Jan. because thats when we always go and we'd save flight costs but if we have to have snow on our balcony when we get back FORGET IT!!!

This is not a happy cruise picture, but I do like it. I took it with a 110 Instamatic camera at the dock on St. Thomas, 3/31/1979. The ship is (was) Angelina Lauro. The fire was declared "out" after 6 days, but she continued to smolder long after that.

On a happier note, here is a view of St. Thomas harbor on a Friday night - sometime in the late seventies. Note that there are 4 ships at the dock. Today, although the dock has been extended by a good amount, only 2 and a half ships fit there.

Nice pics, and great color. I really liked the one of the two people on the rafts, the Capital Bar and the casino picture.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the picture of my old cruising buddy, Jean Michele in a couple of your pics. We cruised together last year on the Dawn. :D He's in some of my pics too.

Thank you for the nice review. I'm fairly new to DSLR cameras and some of my pictures didn't come out as well as I would have wanted, but overall I'm quite pleased. Jean-Michel is a frequent cruiser and a great guy and I would be happy if we were another cruise together. You can check out our Roll Call (Carnival Triumph 9/22/07) and leave him a message.

Thank you Dave, I love the D40. I wish now that I was able to buy the 55-200 lens that you recommended, but it was just too expensive. :eek: I have other scenery shots that I haven't posted yet. I got these online first because I wanted the people we cruised with to be able to see them. I will be sorting through my pictures and posting the best ones.

 

I have a Pbase/Picasa question for you. Is there an easy way to upload from Picasa to Pbase? I played with it for quite a while and couldn't figure it out so I uploaded them from the folder that I orginally downloaded them to.

Jackie, I like the D40. It does everything I want, and more. What I'm going to have to do now is see where I can take a photography class so I can use more of the features and, hopefully, take better and more creative pictures. I am really impressed at how well it does in low light, but my previous camera was an Olymous Stylus and it did not do well in anything less than direct sunlight. I recommend the D40. I read some reviews of the D40X and the general concensus is to not spend the extra money for the X because the D40 does pretty much everything you could want it to.

 

That is a good picture of Jean-Michel. :)

Here's my Pbase procedure:

 

- Select photos in Picasa

- Export (1200 or 1600...usually 1200) to my "Upload" folder.

- Add all the reduced photos to an upload.zip file with WinZip.

- Select and delete the reduced files (you can use the WinZip dialog to move instead of copy which deletes the reduced photos after zipping them).

- Go to the Pbase upload and upload the zip file. Since Pbase will unzip the package and process them automatically, it saves me a bunch of time I would have spent selecting them one at a time.

- Delete the local zip file if the space is important.

 

Not as automatic and simplistic as PicasaWeb uploads, but it is pretty quick and easy.

I was learning about the settings on his old Canon AE1 Program, but then I got a Kodak Digital about 9 or 10 years ago and used the auto settings, and stopped learning about aperature and shutter speeds. :(

My DH tried teaching me, but it just didn't click for me. He is very thorough when explaining things, and I don't have much of an attention span. ;) I need the condensed version... :D

Dave is very talented and sure seems to know his stuff. Have you looked at any of his other pictures?
