How far is it from the port to shopping in Philipsburg?

We will be on the Freedom of the Seas soon and I am wondering how far it is from the port to the shopping area of Philipsburg. We are on a tour that ends either in the shopping area or back to the ship. If we stop for shopping we have to get back to the ship ourselves but it doesn't say if we can walk back or need transportation. Are taxis easy to get? How much will it cost?

The main shopping area is pretty close to the Cruise Facility.

 

You should be able to walk it in 20 minutes or so, depending on your pace. It's flat with finished walkways.

 

You could also grab a taxi back for about $3 per person or a Water Taxi back for $5 ( I think that's still the current price) which provides a great photo opportunity.

Most people pay the $3-5 for a taxi/water taxi mainly because it is hot and you are tired and don't want to lug bags that far. You are on vacation. Set aside that small amount of cash as it will make you enjoy your vacation more IMO.

We were just in St Martin three weeks ago. Water taxi is $5 one way or $7 round trip. They use those stick on bracelets as your ticket.
