Question about Unlimited Drink Package

My DH and I will be cruising on the Carnival Victory on April 23. I am planning on purchasing the Cheers package for myself but my husband is a recovering Alcoholic. I read on Carnival's website that anyone that shares a stateroom must purchase the Cheers package. Is this correct?

OP I would say its not worth it for you because its not unlimited. They cut you off at 15 drinks a day so in your case you would have to pay for 30 drink/2 people.....

You are so right. It's not unlimited if they cut you off at 15 drinks. I can't see my self paying $402.00 for 7 days. I can't drink that many any way. In my cabin it's me 21 y/o and a 13y/o. No.

I thought I read about medical reasons somewhere but apparently they are REALLY concerned about us giving away drinks. I disagree with that policy but that is their right.

I would only do the cheers program if you both plan on drinking 7+ drinks per day, even on excursion days. Our last cruise we did not do any excursions and our daily totals were about 12-15 per day. I hit the max a couple days and was able to use my wife's card to get her remaining drinks.

Sounds like a lot but you figure 6-8 drinks over the course of the afternoon at pool, a couple at dinner and a few enjoying the nite life. Rinse repeat the remaining days.

If people need to drink a lot for whatever reason, and one in the party doesn't drink, just buy it for 2. If it isn't really cost effective that way, then buy a couple of liters of alcohol from Bon Voyage. If you run out before the end of cruise, get another one from room service. Though they are expensive, it would still probably save you a lot of money over buying Cheers for 2.

The Carnival website says the cost is $49.95/pp/pd. I thought the price was reduced last year to around $35/$37/pp/pd. Did I make that up?

no you didn't make that up. last oct. it was that cheap!! but, carnival thought they wasn't making enough money!!:)

that cheap price didn't last long.

FWIW - My personal experience and everything I've heard from Carnival follows the "absolutely no exceptions" mantra. I tried to get an exclusion for my wife who was nursing our baby (also cruising with us) and was told that was not possible. A doctor's note didn't help.

On our cruise next year I don't plan on getting the package. The 15 drink limit is too restrictive. Not that I'm a raging alcoholic but there are days where I'd bump up on that limit and get annoyed when I couldn't get a drink in the casino that night. Also, even though DW isn't nursing she doesn't drink nearly enough to justify the package for her. I'll just to Bon Voyage for 2-3 bottles and pay for my drinks individually from the bar, and probably do a wine package. We'll come out ahead that way.

My DS and DBIL just returned from a cruise on HAL and had their version of the booze card. It was the same limit of 15 drinks a day and she said it was a waste of money. On port days your not on the ship long enough to even cut into that amount and she only drank 3 or 4 a day anyway. DBIL did better but never hit the limit.

My wife are cruising on the Victory May 16. We don't drink enough to bother with the cheers program, but we may drink enough to get a bottle thru Bon Voyage. We're trying to figure out which would be more cost effective ... does anyone know how much your average mixed drink is ? Not the fancy ones ... just someone like a Jack`n`Coke for example.

It's been 2 years since our last cruise ... can't remember :)

  • 2 weeks later...

But how much are the drinks? Like a kettle one and cranberry? Like if I get 4 drinks only in one day it's still prbly just as much as paying that daily amount for the package so why not be able to drink 5or 6 more if you wanted to wo paying.. Just wondering I've never been on this cruise line but I'm going in June & I'm considering the package
