Smoking Areas; Recent SUN pax

Good morning all,

Can anyone tell me where the smoking areas are onboard the Sun?

I'm a rule follower and do NOT smoke where I am not supposed to. I only have a recent Pearl cruise under my belt and have not sailed the Sun in 5 years.

Is there a cigar lounge/bar/etc. that is indoors? I am asking because part of my cruise is to Alaska and it may be cold in the outdoor smoking areas.

Thank you very much!!

We sailed on the Sun in Feb. I'm not a smoker, but my DH is. There were just a few places to smoke. Very small area in the corner on pool deck. At the back, above the great outdoor cafe..(about 4 tables) and in the casino...

The biggest problem we encountered was lack of bar and cleaning service in the smoking area..we were constantly chasing down bar waiters to get a cocktail, or a busboy to clear the dirty ashtrays and dirty dishes..

I hope you have a great cruise, hope this helps.

I appreciate your response very much. I am mobility challenged, but I believe I can get to deck 10 above the Great Outdoor Cafe via the Tapas Bar/Lounge (I forget what it is called right now!).

Too bad about cleaning and drink service. Second class citizen treatment? I hope not :(

Thanks again!

You'll need to go to deck 12 and out the tapas bar (las ramblas) to get to the smoker area above the great outdoor.

casino was very smoky last week

i did not rule breakers smoking on deck 6 which was annoying to us non-smokers

Just cruised the Sun a few weeks ago. It was my first cruise since smoking was banned from balconies. I'll admit to cheating a few times very late at night but found the new rule didn't bother me a bit. Definitely limited smoking areas but the bright side is being forced to share a smoking table and meet people. We actually met a bunch of really nice and interesting people that we will continue friendships with. Even talking about a reunion cruise next year!! Enjoy your cruise!

Hi and thanks for your response.

I think that is the same area as the first reply to me.

I'm sorry there were rule breakers who annoyed you :(

I was on the Pearl (see my sig) in November and the rules were tossed "overboard" so to speak as I was photographing a southern rock cruise. I was horrified as I watched someone on the balcony above me throw a butt overboard. I'm not implying at all that you are this way, but I do have to ask myself: "What good does the "safety" issue do if people are still able to throw butts over board?" And I did yell at the guy. I can understand the "comfort" aspect but not the "safety" aspect.

From what I gather here, it's the pool deck in a corner, Deck 12 aft and the casino.

That'll work for me! Thanks for the info :)

I believe there are ashtrays mounted to the walls just outside the doors on deck 6. They are there for people to step outside and grab a quick smoke because they are not allowed to smoke inside. So, they were not rule breakers!

I didn't see any last week on 6. No Smoking printed on every column that I saw.

I did see ashtray mounted to observation deck rail on 12

I was on the Sun last week and am a smoker - there are 3 areas, the casino, by the pool on deck 6 (found this area was crowded, noisy and had 0 ventilation so was very hot), and my favorite aft deck 12 right above the bar, this was the one I used and if you are also drinking get your drinks at the Sports Bar the bar outside has only 1 bartender and is slow as molasses.

smokers have rights to.. it is outrageous the limited places to smoke. I think if you pay for balcony you should be able to smoke on it..

maybe you manically obsessed non smokers should stay away from the smoking areas.. Just like I stay away from the drunks and avoid the kids areas.

Thanks to these posts, I called NCL about Sun, yesterday.

We are staying on Deck 6A, in just over a week........

I was worried our cabin would be nearby the smoking area on Deck 6.

I was assured it wasn't.

If anyone knows anything different, about Smoking area Location, on Deck 6? Please share. Thank you.

I am sorry. I disagree. Because if you use logic then if a non-smoker pays for a balcony they should be able to use their balcony and the two just don't work together. Balconies are just too close to each other. Most of us non smokers are not "maniacally obsessed" as you put it. Many of us have friends and loved ones who smoke. I would never complain about smokers who smoke in designated areas. Yes, I wish there was a non-smoking casino but as long as NCL designates it as smoking I expect smoke. Last month on the Jewel the casino was untypically non-smoky but I realize it is not the norm.

That is ridiculous.. a balcony is an open porch made of metal on a moving vessel in the open sea. It tka em a all of 6 minutes to have a smke while enjoying my coffe in the morning. all the smoke is completely gone within seconds of my extingwishing a cigarette. You balcony is avalable to you 24/7. If you cant allow me to ejoy mine for a whole 7 minutes it is my rights that are being enfringed on..

YOu claim that you support smoking in designated aeas.. Well you already have 16 restraunts and not one is designated to smoke in, as well as multiple bars and on the Sun NOT one is a cigar bar. Now by your wo addmission you are annoyed that the casino is a smokeing area. NEWS Flash The casino is the designated area.. NO doubt becaue statistic have prven that smokers tend to gamble more than non smokers. They woudl lose revenue if they told me I cant smoke at the slot machine..SO where would you like me to smoke since you want 100% of the ship non smoking?

I am a smoker and i have rights to.. I have smoked on my balcony discreetly all the time and it is totally undetectable and poses 0 risk to your health as you want to claim.

BY the way.. I dot like your kids running down the hall of my cabin or you making all that noise you make at night next to my cabin.. I do not like waiting forever for the elevator because your wheelchair takes up sp much room and has to be accommodated.. I especially did not like it when someone goes out on the balcony a night drunk and throws up.. leaving an awful stink out there. But i have had to put up with all these things and more..

I paid extra to have a balcony cabin and i will smoke on it discretely .. I have rights to. But it would be a lot more civil if i could just go out there and see if you are there and ask do you mine if i smoke or would you like me to wait until later.

I would have not tipped the bartender for being so slow.. Maybe he will be a little nicer next time to the smokers..

If you dont want to be around smoking on deck 6 than book a cabin on another deck.. That is the smokers area.. and of you have a problem with it dont go there.

We get it squeeky. You're a smoker, some people smoke.

But you are incorrect.

According to NCL, only a small portion of Deck 6, is smoking area.

And not near our Forward cabin.

Ship is sold out, so moving isn't a possibility.

So unless I find out differently on the ship, or people are breaking the rules?

I hope to enjoy our smoke-free area.

The casino on deck 7 is smoking and there is a smoking area near the pool.. You still have 90% of the ship non smoking.

It was your choice to choose a cabin on one of the only 2 smoking decks with cabins.. You had 10 decks to choose from.

Yes i smoke.. and i deliberately choose a cabin close to elevators or stairs where i can go to smoke when I want to.. you should choose a cabin the same way, to be away from smoking areas. I have the right to smoke as much as you have the right not to.. If the smoke does not find its way to your cabin that is great.. But if it does you choose to be in my area.

Hi: I know how you feel! I know we can smoke in the casino, deck 6 (smoking side) and not sure where in the pool area? Is it all the way toward the back on the pool level or must I go up the stairs? Walking is a bit of an issue?

Also think I read NO cigar bar in case of rainy weather. Can you confirm one way or another.

Many thanks in advance.:)

We took a cruise before smoking was banned on balconies where the next door neighbours both chain smoked. They spent every moment on "their" balcony thereby denying us the use of ours for the entire cruise.

A balcony might be a open porch made of metal but, as we were downwind, the smoke was overpowering on the balcony and if we opened the doors came into the cabin.

Their rights made our cruise less enjoyable, we too had paid extra to have a balcony.

We would not cruise on a ship where smoking is allowed on balconies, but have no problem with designated areas. These can be avoided. Luckily we don't use the casino but if we did then we would not cruise with NCL because of the smoking.

It would be great if the cruise brochures showed explicitly where the smoking areas were, so they could be avoided in cabin selection if required ( or a cabin booked close if smokers so choose).

I just got off of the Sun on Friday, unfortunately, for all you smokers, they have limited smoking to ONE outdoor location and the casino (when open). The outdoor location is on deck 12 at Champs Bar. This is an uncovered location and subject to a lot of rain and wind. It’s honestly kind of miserable. They have tables and chairs with umbrellas and a great bar, but the wind makes it hard to open the umbrellas most of the time. They did move the smoking area down to the pool deck one day when it was raining very hard. There’s no longer smoking allowed on deck 6 port side (promenade deck) nor the spot above The Great Outdoors (deck 12). It kinda sucked for a smoker honestly!
