megacruiser Posted May 14, 2015 Author #28 Share Posted May 14, 2015 I love your review so far. I went back and read your NCL reviews because of the solo cabins. I have not tried them yet and found a good deal on the new Escape, they even offer AARP discounts. I think I found my next cruise. I like RCI, but the single supplement is getting a bit much. Thanks for commenting. I love NCL's Studios - compact but very well designed and excellent value for money, most of the time. I am also booked on the Escape in January followed by Oasis; to see how it compares post dry dock. I am also booked on Harmony for September 2016; just in case anyone thinks I have deserted Royal Caribbean for NCL...:) Kind regards megacruiser

megacruiser Posted May 14, 2015 Author #31 Share Posted May 14, 2015 I was aboard by noon and, unusually, there was no indication that cabins would not be ready until later, so I headed straight there. It was clear the cabin steward was still preparing all the rooms. He had yet to deliver the welcome envelope with key card and WOW band. He asked me to come back later but, having stowed my hand luggage, I needed some means of getting back into the cabin. He suggested leaving the cabin unlocked but then grudgingly found my WOW band in a big bag that took some time to rifle through. Studio 6248... Full size en-suite shower room.. Rare Turtles06 Posted May 14, 2015 #34 Share Posted May 14, 2015 We're on the Anthem TA this fall, and I appreciate your taking the time to do this review. (I know from experience how time-consuming it is to include all the photos.) (You sure do love your ultra wide angle lens, don't you? :):p;) ) I can't believe you didn't bring a hat or gloves to New York in the winter!!! Looking forward to your next installments, and thanks again. As far as my ultra wide angle lens is concerned - well spotted...:) Actually it is my least favourite lens because the image quality is inferior to my others, but it is very handy in confined spaces, like hotel rooms and cabins...:) As far as New York winter temperatures go, well you live and learn.:o Just thought a tip here could prove helpful to the naïve and uninitiated like me. :) I really appreciate knowing if people are following, so it is much appreciated. If there is little or no feedback, one assumes the worst... Kind regards megacruiser

Piazza1979 Posted May 15, 2015 #44 Share Posted May 15, 2015 Hi! enjoying your review, my husband and I were on the same cruise (our honeymoon!). We had a blast and will be on Anthem next year. Looking forward to seeing it through another's eyes. I had a tough time getting my sea legs! I haven't cruised very much, did you think the waves were "normal"? trying to prepare myself haha. We had a blast and will be on Anthem next year. Looking forward to seeing it through another's eyes. I had a tough time getting my sea legs! I haven't cruised very much, did you think the waves were "normal"? trying to prepare myself haha. Erin Hello Erin, Thanks for commenting. I have experienced worse seas. However, in my opinion, this ship had a most unpleasant skewing/jarring motion; especially further forward and near the top decks, where it was immeasurably worse than in my Deck 6 midships cabin. I found it unpleasant, although it didn't make my feel queasy. I wouldn't sail on this ship out of Cape Liberty in the Winter (or Anthem through the Bay of Biscay) in any cabin much forward of midships; and would try to stay as low down as possible. I hope your Anthem cruise has calmer seas. Kind regards megacruiser

megacruiser Posted May 15, 2015 Author #49 Share Posted May 15, 2015 After leaving my cabin I set off to see Quantum’s most amazing feature, TWO70. It is three storeys tall with enormous panoramic windows curving around the ship’s stern. To see it in real life does not disappoint. Visually stunning, it is a breathtaking space, flooded with light; even on a bleak day like this. A technological marvel, the concept is inspired and it’s multi-functional use throughout the cruise proved why this is the ship designers’ biggest achievement. I will have a more detailed look later in the review as part of my Deck Tours. This is the most beautiful bar aboard that has human operatives... A dozen or so high-backed armchairs facing directly aft through the panoramic windows... Interesting to gaze out at the river traffic in spite of the grim weather... megacruiser Posted May 15, 2015 Author #50 Share Posted May 15, 2015 Next door on Deck 5 is Cafe TWO70 that is open for salads; hot and cold sandwiches; cakes and pastries; and the famous Kummelweck Rolls... The large conical bowls seemed to be very popular, filled to the brim with freshly prepared salads...
