we did this on the liberty almost 3 years ago (We got married the week before Thanksgiving then did the back to back).

The difference between the week before and the week of Thanksgiving is crazy. Every room was full the week of Thanksgiving. Way too crowded! Lots of kids.

But hey, the food is good, and you don't have to do the clean up.

I did thanksgiving on the Spirit about 10-15 years ago... The food was just as good this time as I remembered :)

We have sailed on Thanksgiving twice in the past and found the difference to be unnoticeable. Christmas decoration were up both time which were nice to see and the children numbers were as if it was a summer cruise. We had great cruises both times, enjoy and relax.

We love cruising Thanksgiving! I m a teacher and we have two school age children so Thanksgiving and Spring Break tend to be the two weeks we cruise. Thanksgiving week is a lot of large families. The weather is usually great (although not last year!) the decorations start going up on ship and in the ports the day after Thanksgiving. We are a vegetarian family, but I did not turkey on the menu in the MDR.

We have sailed for the last couple of years on Thanksgiving. My DW is a teacher and is one of the few weeks she only has to work 2 days. It started out as a vacation and slowly turning into a family tradition for our family. We do have kids and it tends to be very crowded but you make your vacation your own. We just go to get away and spend time with our children.

We sailed the Southern Caribbean for Thanksgiving once. Actually, we spent the day snorkeling in St. Lucia Piton's, then had the usual Turkey in the MDR that night. Nothing special at all, spent Black Friday in St. Kitts, but there were no deals. :p

It didn't feel like a special holiday on the ship, in fact, I felt like I missed Thanksgiving and Black Friday altogether, and when we got home, felt rushed through the Christmas holiday shopping as I usually have most of Christmas shopping done on Black Friday or that weekend.

We cruised last thanksgiving on royal. Due to only being two of us (DS and mom) we hoped to be at a table with several new friends but Because of the holiday large families sat together and we were by ourselves a few nights. The Christmas decorations were nice

We cruise every Thanksgiving and have for about 15 years. It is very crowded with lots and lots of kids. Most of the kids are having fun and well behaved. Some run and scream in the halls. Just like home. :D The turkey is not like your own special turkey cooked with love but it is acceptable and the dishes take much less time. Thanksgiving is usually the second formal night. Never have I seen Christmas decorations on a Thanksgiving cruise but maybe this year. :) Weather is unpredictable as it is still hurricane season and tropical systems are always a possibility. We always have some rain and one year we actually skirted a tropical system on a western cruise. Had to skip ports and couldn't go out on deck or use the stairs. The MDR was closed and we were actually asked to stay in our rooms so nobody would fall and get hurt. One of my favorite cruises- but I was much younger then.... Anyway, Thanksgiving is fun and the weather is normally warm but not hot. I agree with a previous poster that it does take some away from Christmas. The last few years, I have come home from our cruise with a bit of the bah humbug for Christmas, Now I try to get some done before we go and that really helps a lot. I also have my son's gf decorate the house for Christmas so we come home to lights and trees. I am really grateful for her assistance. I simply love to cruise and the holidays have a certain feel of celebration. Just my opinion....

We're on the Splendor this year for Thanksgiving for the first time ever. Since it's only my wife and I normally for a holiday, and my MIL is joining us for this cruise, I am hoping that it feels more like a holiday, without the stress. We'll be in Puerto Rico on Thanksgiving Day and plan on eating Mufungo for our pre-turkey lunch in port but staying mostly on the ship!

DH and I have done it a number of times because it's my birthday week usually and two holiday days, so less vacation needed. Way too many kids for us to endure, though. Fortunately, we are in the casino as much as possible and they aren't allowed. Was booked on the Breeze for this Thanksgiving week, but just changed to the Conquest for Dec. 12th for a Premier Casino Cruise, so we don't anticipate many kids that week. Most of the kids behave, but on some cruises it just seems there are monsters inside those bodies and parents are oblivious.

Has anyone ever done a cruise the week of thanksgiving? Just curious what it is like as we will be sailing on the liberty this year that week.

Yes, this past Thanksgiving we celebrated on RC's Liberty of the Seas out of Fort Lauderdale. They had Christmas decorations out already including Christmas trees. We ate the traditional turkey dinner in the MDR and had pumpkin pie for dessert. My family sat alone ( it was 4 of us) and we did our annual Thanksgiving family tradition of each saying what we are thankful for and then said grace together as a family before we started to eat. I don't think we would have done that if we were sitting at a table with strangers, so I am glad we requested to sit alone.

We went to Cozumel on the cruise and while it was a little cloudy, it was a bit chilly ( air temp high was in the low 70's) and very breezy. It was actually a chilly ( for South Florida) day in the mid 60's when we sailed out on Thursday/ Thanksgiving morning out of Port Everglades. I am a native Floridian and live in South Florida, so I was already feeling cold and wearing a sweater... there was no way I would get in the water to swim in Cozumel because it would feel freezing to me.

The ship was packed, but the atmosphere was nice and it was fabulous to not think about cooking or cleaning up in the kitchen!
