Adrift at Sea on Rhapsody due to Rita

Hello,

Can't post much, since slow Cruise Critic + slow ship's service (worst i-connection yet) means one has to get on and off quickly. We departed Galveston, had a nice beg of week, then due to Hurricane Rita we've been zipping here and there.

We should have departed the ship today, but instead we'll be in FLL tonight, then not to Galveston 'til Wed (if ever).

Wow, I thought I loved cruising but 11 days is starting to kick my bum. I'm afraid if I hear the reggae version of "Red Red Wine" one more time there will be mayhem.

RCI has been good about informing us, but their plans change daily so it's very hard.

Seriously re-thinking the 2 week cruise I have in Nov! But we are just trying to 'hang loose' and see what happens. My friend and I both have kids at home so we would like to see them soon!

We had this happen on the Mariner last September. It was an "extended" cruise too thanks to 2 hurricanes. Our kids were back at home fretting that the hurricane was going to kill us. We had a hard time convincing them that we were perfectly safe. I know how you feel. I hope you get back soon! Our DD made us promise to never sail during hurrican season again!

Hope you are fairing well.

Regarding the length, keep in mind that, on your Nov cruise you are planning to be there that long. A lot of your current attitude is probably due to the uncertainty and derailing of what you were prepared for.

To be honest with you, I envy you. We were supposed to board the Rhapsody today. Since she isn't coming in till Wed, we are just going to cancel and take the cruise a little later on, after the hurricane season. We dodged the bullet here in Houston, and if everybody would have know then what we know now, I think the ship would have come in today like it was scheduled to do.

Celebrity gave $300 per stateroom last year when they could not dock in FLL & they just sailed circles in the Gulf. Many had quite a blast in the casino & the martini bar, so you deserve something too, so check your account. RCCL should be doing the same.......

Just curious---has the ship run out of any supplies?

They most likely resupplied in Ft. Lauderdale today.

This is a problem I wouldn't mind. 10 days aboard a beautiful cruise ship for the price of 7.... sweet deal, and it definately beats the evacuation nightmare that Texans had to endure this week.

I too would love to be "stuck at sea".

My boss would just have to understand why my vacation was longer than expected :)

Seriously... I hope all is well on the cruise and everyone had a great time. I feel sorry for the cruises who have to take a shorter cruise though.

My family of 12 were suppose to board yesterday also. We have decided to take the 50% back and take the four night cruise. Not really what we wanted but that is what we are going to do because it is almost impossible to get everyone back together again. Just hope when we get on the ship they give us an upgrade! When Rccl called us they told us there would be perks. We shall see.

Travelgrrl,

I am sure you miss your kids but relax and soak in the sunshine. I live 40 miles east of you in Northern Wisconsin. I know as I have child who goes to UMD that your winters on the Big Lake are very long and hard. We are 15 miles off the lake in the snow belt. Keep your chin up and enjoy the heat. The leaves are starting to turn therefore winter is coming.

Have a great cruise.

Patty

P.S. Vikings won Yippee

Packers lost - Double Yippeeee

We'll be on this cruise also. There are six in our group. It would be nice to get upgraded, we've also had calls from Rccl but they didn't mention anything about perks to us. Hope your group has a good cruise.

DW and I were scheduled to sail on the 25th. We are taking the 50% and taking the four nighter. There is a nice silver lining. The ship will be much less crowded than it was going to be. I think. We are getting a four night cruise in an oceanview for $300. Add to that a $100 discount for a future cruise. I think we will be OK. I really hope that everyone on the extended sailing is having a good time, and that the ship has not run out of food and beverage. OP - Thanks for taking the time to check in with CC.

I totally agree with you guys....I would have loved a few extra days at sea! We sailed the week of Hurricane Emily. All I wanted was to get onboard and then we could sail anywhere for any length of time!! I was hoping for a few extra days. No such luck for us!

Thanks for all the nice replies. Yes, I shouldn't be b****ing, we are lucky in many ways. The weather has been great, we had an extra day at port (Montego Bay, our favorite day, we went to Dr's Cave Beach), and now two extra sea days. But WOW is the Compass bare - lots of white space! Also we didn't get assigned a dining room table (long story, but the two of us would have had to sit at different tables) so we've been eating at the Windjammer all week (except for 2nd formal night -lobster - we wangled our way in the dining room). So I am a little tired of buffet food (though it IS very relaxing and quick to eat there)

Yesterday I was able to change our flights home from Mon to Wed so that worked out OK. Originally RCI was going to take responsibility to fly us all home but changed their minds yesterday. We are allowed 10 min of internet per day (slow connection, so good luck getting off and on in 10 min), and 10 min of stateroom phone per day (Can NEVER get through, and I even tried at 2 AM one time.) Otherwise, no perks or freebies.

Once we were closer to FL, my cell phone worked and I was able to call our airlines. Thank goodness!

Yes, Duluth is coooooold and I should soak up as much sun as possible while I can. Also I've written 100 (longhand) pages of the screenplay I'm writing!
