Celebrity website shows the Infinity R/T from Vancouver truly sailing the inside passage both ways on 2016 cruises. Cruise.com graphic shows ship cutting out to sea to reach Icy Straits and Hubbard and then to Ketchikan

What is the true route???

Yes . It probably swings outside the inside passage of Alaska because no pilot is required and it can cruise faster.

Sailing to Hubbard Glacier does take you into the open sea but closer to land than an open sea passage if that makes sense. We've done it from both Seward and north routes and didn't feel a thing. The actual Inland Passage really doesn't go much further north than Skagway anyway.

The sailing to ISP is one of the most wonderful passages and if the approach is via open waters then it's totally worth it. The strait is very narrow and the views fantastic.

If you are planning a cruise then think about sailing south from Seward to Vancouver. You enter Hubbard Glacier in the afternoon when the chances of fog are diminished.

While the round trip is absolutely fine the one way is much better.

These destinations are on the Gulf of Alaska, so must be in the Pacific to get there. Inside Passage gets you nearby, but cannot get you all the way there. The itinerary will still be mostly IP.

The inside passage is only interesting on the way back anyway. On the way outbound, Millennium entered at 11 pm, about 6 hours after leaving Vancouver, and exited at 8 am... On the return journey, you get to enjoy the scenery all day, until approx. 11 pm.
