Carnival Liberty Evacuation

Sorry your post confused me with the walking papers then carnival specialist then coast guard revocation. I just want to know if you're staying on the ship in St Thomas and sailing back to San Juan with her or are you flying home from St Thomas? I would dare to think that if say 75% of the passengers have departed and flown home Carnival may decide that it isn't cost effective to operate at full capacity for the remaining 25% and that certain areas may be closed (limited dining for instance) or they may decide it's easier to operate at this time with zero passengers onboard.

Walking papers = Embarkation letter and flight details

Carnival Care Specialist = Customer Care from the Miami office that was flown in on Tuesday.

Coast Guard revocation = we were cleared by the coast guard and then they revoked the clearance.

Unless something changes, we are staying on the ship and sailing to San Juan.

If ours was canceled we would jump on the adventure of the seas.

Several of us actually looked into that one since we're arriving in San Juan around noon on the 19th, but it was sold out. As a "just in case", we still have reservations at the hotel we're staying one night pre cruise. We have the option to cancel w/out penalty if we do it by 9/17.

I was on the cruise you are talking about. It was San Juan, sea day, sea day, Barbados, St. Lucia (1 hour earlier than originally planned), St Maarten (Friday instead of Saturday), St. Thomas (Saturday instead of Monday) then back to San Juan. Missed St. Kitts. St Lucia was rainy and St. Maarten wasn't ready for water activities as most boats were out of the water due to the high winds. We did get to do the water UFO's (fun) but my son was not able to dive due to poor conditions and the boat not being back in the water. St Thomas we went to Sapphire beach which was wavy and poor snorkeling due to Ericka. Didn't feel the boat rocking at all in cabin 6423. Only mechinal problem on board was the second day at sea the pools were not opened till after 12 and I was told by a crew member that there was something they had to fix. Cruise dates were 8/23/15 to 8/30/15. We were advised Saturday night before sailing (8/22/15) of the new plans. I had to contact all my personal excursions of the the different times and days. My son was bummed as he was supposed to fly board at St. Kitts.

I was watching Liberty's webcam that week just to see if I could make out the weather and how rough the water was to get an idea of what we could potentially be facing with weather. The weather didn't look that great and I felt bad for everyone on that cruise. Bad weather in addition to missing St. Kitts. And the following week they had beautiful weather - the whole week it appeared. Sorry your weather wasn't that nice.

We were on Liberty in April 2014 and the main pool was closed and empty on our last day (sea day), but we heard two different stories. One was maintenance and the other was for (how do I put this) clean up of an "accident" a child had in the pool. Otherwise we had no issues and Liberty seemed to be running smoothly. We could feel vibration in the dining room at the back, but it wasn't constant and we've felt that on other cruises. We've had generally smooth seas (never like glass as I've seen in pictures) but last year's Liberty cruise wasn't that rough, but the roughest we've had and no issues with her at all, except for the main pool that last sea day.

Really the only day that was a complete bust was St. Lucia. The other days it was sunny or partial sunny it just that the water conditions weren't the best. My husband jokes that everyone who wants to hit a hurricane should just find out when I book our next cruise. Thanks for your sympathy.

I have hit 4 hurricanes so far with 2 being on this last one. One time we missed a port (Nassau) and went back to NY so the cruise was cut short. Carnival gave everyone the option of staying on board or leaving a day early. They were offering like a $10.00 credit. So my family and extended family chose to stay on board. I mean why not, another dinner and so on. Most chose to leave (about 65%). I just went to the jewelry district with my sister-in-law that day. The other one was with friends to Bermuda. We hit such bad seas that even the crew was getting sick. It was lucky for us that we sailing because my friends daughter works for RCI and got us a great rate. She also arranged for us to have use of the room they reserve for people with suites. The person checking passage into the room gave us these special seasickness pills reserved for the crew and it knocked us out and we didn't suffer much. The captain announced that no one was allowed to wear heels. That one was bad.

On a completely different note I just feel the Liberty will sail on Sunday. Don't ask me why I just think it will.

Sounds like your luck with hurricanes is the same as ours, but ours were all land vacations. I always said I'd never set foot on a cruise ship during hurricane season, but this year and all the talk of El Nino which would make it difficult for storms to develop, we took the chance. We never even considered a fire or some other mechanical issue. It does seem like Liberty will sail Sunday and we'll be sailing the following Sunday and really looking forward to being on her again (first time to ever repeat a ship), especially this itinerary - my favorite.

It's not showing as sold out on the rcl page or third party pages. I have a 24 hour hold on a room now.

Your confusing immigration with customs.

In any case, all you need is a drivers license to go from either of these two US territories to fly back to the states.

No, I'm not. Customs is about stuff. Immigration is about people.

And I was responding to the assertion that it wouldn't matter from anywhere- because the cruise line is flying you home- not specifically from a US territory. But a US citizen will not be denied entry just because they do not have a passport.

On Adventure of the Seas? I was on RCI's site the other day and saw it was sold out. This is just speculation so don't take my word for it, but it could be rooms that travel agents booked ahead of time that they weren't able to sell, so they released back to RCI (???). Do you know, off hand, what the itinerary is? I forgot to look that up the other day. Hopefully you won't need to book it and we'll all be sailing on Liberty on the 20th. :)

Barbados was great (rented a fishing charter just for us caught 6 fish and then the captain took us to snorkel with the turtles). St. Lucia bust (hung out at the back of the ship pool where it is covered). St. Maarten-did UFO boats and went shopping in town. St. Thomas-Sapphire beach. San Juan-did old San Juan but I'm not a fan of this port. To me the only thing worthy of San Juan is that its a great jump off point to cruise. When you come out of NY you spend 2 days cruising just to get South and then spend 2 days going back. My favorite ports are cozumel, grand cayman and Roatan. If they could get in Key West with those 3 that would be perfect. I also love greneda but that port only seems to be done on repositioning cruises and we can't cruise that time of year.

Glad your whole cruise wasn't a washout and that you were able to do what sounds like some pretty nice excursions. Our Liberty cruise last year was a western and we went to the same (Cozumel, Belize, Roatan). Grand Cayman was cancelled (weather related). Weather was sunny at the ports we made but water conditions weren't favorable. We aren't far from Baltimore (hour and a half drive, non rush hour) and have considered the Pride since we wouldn't have to fly, but for some reason it's more expensive than those going out of FL or other southern ports, so we've just done those instead. And like sailing out of NYC, it takes at least two days to get down and two back. That was an option my DH gave me for this year, once we decided cruise but I picked Liberty...and still glad I did even though we're dealing with possible hurricanes and now the current situation. Like you said, I have a good feeling we'll be sailing on the 20th and once we're on her we'll be grabbing a "Funship Special" as and relieved and happy to be on her again.

I know TAs hold rooms because we have a TA on our Allure of Seas boards that still has several balconies available even though RC shows everything except suites as sold out on the their website for our cruise in November. I would image that at some point the TA has to either book the cabin or return it to the cruise line.

The AOS itinerary we did last March was St. Thomas, St Kitts, Aruba and Curacau.

I understand that, but per their communication they have said she will sail as scheduled. And if that were to change last minute, I would not be happy.

That is not what they said.

they said:

" All future cruises, including the next voyage departing Sunday, September 13, are scheduled to operate as planned."

Of course they are scheduled, BUT just because they are scheduled does not mean that they WILL operate as planned it just means that as of now that is the schedule.

So how do you define "to operate" then ?

Guests that are scheduled on the last two flights have been called to the Victoria lounge for a meeting. At this time, those guests have not had their luggage taken from the hallway. I will try to find out what was said in the meeting.

Not quite sure what exactly you are trying to say. Carnival says they are scheduled to operate as planned. I'm assuming their plan is the itinerary that was scheduled. I'm just saying it would be nice to know if they plan on changing that so those of us cruising those dates can make appropriate changes.

You've got over a week to go and one sailing before yours. How can they guarantee the unknown? I believe a lot will depend on how well the cruise back to PR and the one on the 13th goes. I know you seem to be an extreme planner, but you need to chill a bit.

They are now giving people booked on chartered flights the option of staying on the ship until Sunday. The ship will return to San Juan tomorrow morning and then guests can fly out on their original flights.

Sorry, was hand washing clothes in my sink...so Aloha<3 beat me to it.
