Carnival Liberty Evacuation

That was pretty much my point the ship broke in US V.I., the ship was home ported in PR. All US possessions. So not the problem it might have been if it broke down in, lets say St Kitts or some other non-US port. And even for non-US passengers, which do need a passport, they already have all of the documentation they need.

Even if something was needed, it was nothing more then they would have had anyway because of where the cruise started/ended.

In this case I really don't think it would matter where the cruise ship had to fly you home from. You don't need a passport because the cruise line is providing your transport in the form of a plane instead of a ship.

That the cruise line is transferring you really doesn't matter. You still have to go through immigration, same as anyone else arriving by plane.

However, it is possible to go through immigration without a passport, it just takes additional steps. I have seen people (left by cruise ships!) who have gotten on regular commercial planes without a passport. It is completely possible.

Those who have a passport will process quicker.

I would think that most of the 770 are couples or families so that would "only" be 385 rooms.

There are always a lot of couples/families that live in PR on this cruise, there always is. Those passengers would be easy to accommodate since you just need to fly them BACK to where they live.

ragethjj23, not positive, but pretty sure we'll still be going to Barbados as other passengers embark/disembark there. Itinerary could be altered otherwise but nothing has been said by Carnival yet.

Keep forgetting about Barbados passengers.

It would be one port I would gladly give up.

If that is the way you feel you should never have booked a cruise during hurricane season.

A natural occurrence is one thing, not being able to do the itinerary due to mechanical problems is another. Especially when they keep saying it will sail as scheduled and not let you change to another ship if you choose.

My point is, you will not be left behind because you don't have a passport. At no point or time in OP's report did Carnival say anything about the need of a passport to return home. Am I correct or did I miss something?

Curious, which ship would you switch to? None are doing the Liberty itinerary.

I can understand your frustration, I truly can. When you plan for a vacation and its in jeopardy raw emotions can spill out. Fingers crossed things will work out

more clean-up done............ thank you

.

Went from 1025 to 986 posts ...... wondering if I had done something wrong.

.

As for changing itinary on a cruise......... you cruise long enough and it will happen to you......... Just have to roll with the punches ( or the waves).

.

I still like the "aunt Zelta" comment........ hope that one was kept because it is a gem.

.

I have a feeling I will be using that expression for a while " poor aunt Zelda", I do feel for her on this trip........ Stay / go / stay / go......... I don't know.

.

This is like a reality soap opera.......... we are all hooked.

Good morning. We got our walking papers this morning. Zone 10 with a flight to our home in Orlando. If you have been following my posts, our intention was to only be flown to San Juan and then stay in a hotel until we can take our original flight back home on the 13th. Guest services said they would cover the hotel expense. Because our flight plans were not what we requested on our form, we went to the Victoria lounge to speak to a Carnival Care specialist to fix our flights. While on hold with the Miami office, the Carnival Care specialist was pulled aside and told that we have received coast guard clearance and will be sailing to San Juan either tonight or early tomorrow. Guests will then be able to stay on the ship until the 13th. I was just informed by the Carnival Care specialist that clearance was granted yesterday, but the coast guard retracted it. However, she was not able to say way it was retracted. Most of the evening last night, we had fuel trucks next to the ship. The letter we received this morning also stated that our air fare will be refunded. So we have received a free cruise, 50% off another cruise, refunded gratuities and pre paid shore excursions and refunded air fare. If anything changes, I will post an update.

Sorry your post confused me with the walking papers then carnival specialist then coast guard revocation. I just want to know if you're staying on the ship in St Thomas and sailing back to San Juan with her or are you flying home from St Thomas? I would dare to think that if say 75% of the passengers have departed and flown home Carnival may decide that it isn't cost effective to operate at full capacity for the remaining 25% and that certain areas may be closed (limited dining for instance) or they may decide it's easier to operate at this time with zero passengers onboard.

Since both St Thomas and Puerto Rico are parts of the USA, no passport is required to fly home to the USA from these territories.

I think when pax were stranded in Sint Maarten by Carnival it was another story.

Charter flights are still happening today for guests that want to leave the ship and will continue until 5:30. The flights going out today are to Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, New York and Chicago.

Thanks again, Pauley, for the updates! JH mentioned about the flights continuing to get the Guests home but you gave us more detail! That's great they are doing the Charters for those wishing to leave to the various Hubs in the States!

Do you have any idea how many are staying on with you to San Juan?

Enjoy your day! :)

Your confusing immigration with customs.

In any case, all you need is a drivers license to go from either of these two US territories to fly back to the states.
