Don't like to cruise???

I am trying to get several families to go on a cruise next July. I've gotten the usual "Let us talk about it", but one friend said she just didn't like to cruise. So, that got me thinking. Do you know anyone who just flat-out doesn't like to cruise? Except for seasickness (which this friend does not get), what do they not like about it?

I know several travelers who don't like to cruise, it's not for everyone-

I have one friend who doesn't like the cramped cabins-she likes huge hotel suites, and she says that one day in a port isn't long enough to explore a new place-she likes a week to do so.

My cousin cruised with me last year, and she doesn't really like cruises because she feels that they are boring and consist mostly of eating and eating and eating. She also likes fresh water pools not salt, and likes to lay on the beach which you can't do when you are at sea-

A lot of people just don't like being confined-even though some of the ships are huge, you are still stuck in the middle of the ocean at times, which does limit your options in certain situations-what if the food's bad, weather' s bad, health's bad-what if what if....many just don't like the large number of people confined to a limited space-and the lines-at a land-based resort, you can always find a spot to be alone if you walk far enough down the beach-not always so on a crowded ship.

I love cruising, but I know a lot of people who don't-good, more cabins for me!!!!

It's either your thing, or its not...

When she told me this, my first reaction was, "What could you possibly not like?" Sun, food, several different ports without packing and unpacking, sun food, entertainment without having to drive anywhere, drinking without having to drive home, food, meeting new people, sitting on your balcony while in port and having a margarita while you watch all the late people run to the ship before it leaves them (that one is priceless!), casinos, hairy leg contests, sun, food......

But, alas, I guess all that doesn't doesn't appeal to some people.....my friends reason was that she found it all kinda boring......LOL

My mother is afraid of being in the water in the middle of nowhere. I keep trying to tell her that the likelihood of us sinking due to an iceberg in the Caribbean is pretty slim to non-existent:rolleyes:

So this January we're taking my father with us and my mother is just as happy as can be to be staying on dry land:D

Was that you laughing at me? Just teasing, I wasn't at Carlos and Charlies that day... that is priceless to see those people come back. And the one's on the booze cruises!

I do have a relative who doesn't like to cruise, he says he wants more than a day at the island. I keep telling him, most islands don't have more than a day's worth of sights! I love St. Thomas, and I'd go there for a week, no doubt, but I can lay on a beach anywhere, a cruise gives you the chance to see more islands in one week than you can on any vacation. If you went on a land vacation to 5 islands, you'd better have alot of money and alot of time off work.

I know several people that will not cruise.. Man are they missing out!

My aunt can't swim and she has this "thing" with boats/ships and being on the water. She's terrified that the ship will sink. Being out in the middle of nowhere freaks her out. She loves to travel and it's sad that she won't try it. I think she would absolutely love it.

My mom won't try a cruise either but with her health issues and her ways of doing things I really don't think she would like it. If my dad was still alive they probably would have done it together to shut me up since I was always trying to talk them into a Canadian cruise.

Some friends don't like being on a schedule while in port and would rather do their own thing when they feel like it.

Everyone has their "thing" but one thing I know.. I love cruising and being pampered for x amount of days, having fun, being in the middle of nowhere and watching a gorgeous sunset, seeing new places, going back to favorite ports, shows, food, food, food, liquor, liquor, liquor, activities, meeting new people, etc. is fantastic. You sure can't put a price tag on that!

Confession:

I went on Sovereign of the Seas 11 years ago and hated it.

* I hated the rigid schedule of meals and entertainment

* I hated the short visits to ports, I wanted to spend quality

time exploring

* I hated the tiny cramped cabin

But I love to travel, and I try to keep up with all ideas and options.

And I've read a lot about how much cruise lines have done and

it was actually me who suggested a cruise vacation last year that

we took in January.

* I loved the kids program, we had more time as adults for a week

than we've had since our 5 year old was born

* There are now plenty of food and entertainment options and

flexible schedules

* I have been to enough of the caribbean that I am not so

worried about the ports

* The cabin was mich larger and a balcony does wonders

So I am a convert and we are going on Voyager of the Seas in just over a week!

We have been to many of the islands and would never consider doing a land based trip where all there is to do is sit on the beach, snorkel, shop...but some people only get 1 week vacation and to them that is the idea of a perfect relaxing vacation.Where on a cruise ship there is always something going on, even though you don't have to participate some people think it's too hectic. I find it so nice to already know the cost of meals, lodging, transportation and entertainment. The only unknown is how much I'll spend in ports, and even that if you know which shore excursions you want to do you can figure out the cost. I can't think of anything more relaxing. I'd much rather be sailing at sea, than 45000 feet above land in a plane. much more worriesome than a ship :)

Some people feel trapped on a ship. I know I had a problem with four days at sea on the way back from Hawaii. I prefer cruises close to the mainland so we can see an island each day.

I don't understand why people enjoy camping in a sleeping bag under the stars, but I am glad they find pleasure from it. I guess we all don't like chocolate cake either. To each his own....

Oh, I don't think I would like that either. 2 days at sea is my max!

We plan our cruises based entirely upon itinerary. I like the concept of not unpacking and having the city-to-city travel done while I'm sleeping but beyond those factors, I don't know that cruising by itself would really be that great.

When my mother was alive, she always wanted us to do a family cruise (family consisting of her, my dad, my sister, BIL, nephew, me, DH, and DD). My sister would not even consider a cruise - no reason given. We FINALLY settled on a land trip to Northern California, but only after her Dentist's nephew's girlfriend took a trip out there and raved about it (I kid you not, I could say that the sky was blue and she would need to disagree - probably by giving me the exact panatone color!). My family and my parents travelled together extensively (including cruises) so I have no regrets - it is a shame that her sheer obstance my mother never got to completely realize her dream.

Had a BIG problem flying back from Hawaii, knowing if the plane went down 1/2 between Hawaii and California, there was noone out there :( and we were many miles from either of those places! Definitly prefer to travel by ship :p

I'm not a huge plane fan

My friend is claustrophobic to the extreme. Even the idea of being on an island doesn't sit well with her. She had to go to Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman for her job and was going out of her mind. I suggested a cruise. She, at first, was adament that she would not go. Now she says that she MAY try a very short one to see it she likes it but doesn't want to go to the Caribbean....I'll see what I can find...;)

I don't think I've ever met anyone who "likes" cruising. I think you either love it or you hate it. I love it <g>

I would cruise more than I already do if I could. We started taking our son cruising at 15 months (yep, I'm one of those) and he is now 4 and has been on 6 cruises. We love everything about it. LOVE the at sea days, love the port days, everything.

Did I mention we love cruising???

My mom had a problem with the competition of formal nights on a princess cruise years ago.

I don't see any need to choose between the two types of vacations. I enjoy cruising, land based tropical island vacations, as well as ski trips and summer mountain escapes. Also love traveling to Europe and other foreign lands. Of course, I wouldn't be able to do all those types of trips in one year, but I manage to do all of them in a cycle of several years. I love cruising, but I can't imagine limiting myself to ONLY that type of vacation...

To each his own...

My wife is one who does not like to cruise, In fact there is nothing I can do to get her to step foot on board a cruise ship BTW That is not stopping me from cruising. In fact she is the one who sugessted that I go. She was getting tired of me surfing the cruising sites and watching Cruising shows on TV. Her problem is not fear of sinking or anything like that. She grew up in Hawaii and has been on many small boats ( and I do mean boats not ships ). Her main issue is being around so many people. She has a mild social anxitiy problem and would not feel comfortable around a large number of people. I almost had her convinced at one time by telling her of the shopping on board the ship but then she had an attack of sanity and said she did not want me to go broke by leaving her near the jewelry stores for 7 days. Ah well. Guess I will just have to muddle along and enjoy the cruise.

One of our ports on our second cruise was Grand Cayman. We had such a good time that we decided to make our next family vacation a week on the island. While we had a great time there (It happened to be the December after Hurricane Ivan), I don't think I would like to spend a week there again.

I really like the ease of seeing more than one port on a cruise.
