Did Breakaway stop at Great Stirrup Cay this week?

You didn't check BA's live webcam earlier - if you get a chance now - a quick glance will confirm that it skipped GSC, for whatever reasons (usually, it's sea conditons & for safety, conditions not good for tendering) and sailed on to (with available berth) Nassau - it's already docked there. ;) Bow is facing away from Atlantas, at the channel out to open waters - pax (and, off-duty crew with shore leaves granted) are free to do whatever :D

As for what to do - that depends, all up to to you. Under Destination, look for Bahamas - plenty of ideas, tips & suggestions on ... dinner, shopping, bars & sunset cruises, and, lots of drivers eager to take you for the ride & show you around :p (due diligence advised)

Sorry if this is a silly question: but if they miss GSC does that mean they overnight in Nassau (if there is a free berth)?

That's not a silly question, at least not in this case. Typically, once the ship pulled in & we had 2 of those "missed GSC & let's go to Nassau for the night" runs before, and a 3rd. time due to unscheduled maintenance with the azipods - and guests are free to come & go all night, until departure the next day.

Well, it looked like she sailed from Nassau not long ago & seemed to be hovering just outside, not too far away - probably with all the city lights in the near distance. That way, casinos can open to take up the willing & ready guests' "contributions" playing slots & table games, while others can do whatever onboard.

Usually, one or more berth is available overnight (especially, this is "off-peak" season with few ships calling - it's not free to the cruiseline as they are charged (I stand corrected on ths) for anchoring to the pier. They're not scheduled to be there until tomorrow morning - so ... (looking at live shipcam, it's pitch black, more or less - in navigation mode, as otherwise, lights from houses & homes nearby in the channel are usually seen, regardless of which direction the ship is facing. ;)

Thank you :)

If we do get problems I hope we get extra port time rather than extra sea time - we have 3 days already and although I'm looking forward to it, we are more used to post-intensive med trips with minimal sea time so it will be a bit of a change!

If ship skipped GSC, paid shorex including rentals are automatically refunded in the form of OBC, not CC used - which can be used to offset DSC & purchases, etc. (unless prepaid for everything ...) Use it for duty-free, cosmetics are decently priced, or if it's a larger sum - things like spa or future cruise, etc. or cash out via casino (3% fees apply)

Dex - sailing the Spirit next month - for the holiday ? Have a nice one ... we are off the cruise cycle for now, maybe early Spring again on a longer itinerary  Regards :)

And if you do not use that OBC, it will be mailed to you in as a check around 4 weeks after the cruise ends.

Yes, going old school on the Spirit. We were on the Spirit in 2007 (May of that year) and we looked at going on Escape or Spirit the same week in December this year and opted for the Spirit. Not really for the holidays and kids aren't going, just worked out. Thanks.

I want to see baha mar

Sorry but the Baha Mar is not open yet

On June 29, 2015, Baha Mar Ltd., the developer of the Baha Mar resort, announced that, in order to complete construction and open Baha Mar as soon as practicable, Baha Mar Ltd., and entities associated with it, are voluntarily undertaking the process of Chapter 11 under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

The Baha Mar Board of Directors has determined that due to the financial consequences of the repeated delays by the general contractor, and the resulting loss of revenue, the Chapter 11 process is the best path to provide the time to put in place a viable capital structure and working relationships to complete construction and successfully open Baha Mar. The voluntary Chapter 11 filing has been made in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

We are committed to doing all we realistically can to move Baha Mar forward to be completed and opened successfully. We are confident that once opened, Baha Mar will be a world-class destination resort that will attract guests from around the world and serve as a key economic sparkplug in The Bahamas.

We have provided resources on this website for our stakeholders and will update this as we move through the process.

we just got off, we didn't go to GSC. They lined us up through the smokey casino for over an hour, they wouldn't let me kids sit on the stools, and then cancelled the port. There was no compensation. We did go to Nassau a little early and told we'd be able to get off, but they never made an announcement and when my inlaws asked if they could get off they were told it would be a few more hours.

Looks like you made it to Nassau the night before

what kind of compensation are you looking for! Did

you book an excursion with NCL for GSC ? other

then that there is nothing to be compensated

for. When you booked it states Ono Port is guaranteed

Sorry you missed GSC it is our favorite Port and

we always hope that we can make it, but hey if not

then not, safety first!

It was just a really crappy day and I don't think NCL handled it well. They probably could have figured out the night before or certainly before calling everyone to line up, that they weren't able to make it. They ask you to reserve a tender, but it's not clear, so the line was huge with people who had no idea they were supposed to reserve the tender. They run the line through the casino with that horrible smoke smell. As we stood in the line that barely moved for an hour, I was told my kids couldn't sit on the stools in the casino so they were forced to sit on the floor or we had to carry them. They said they'd add extra activities, they didn't except for 1 arts and crafts event. They told us there that they'd have free bingo, that turned out to be buy one get one free, so us, along with about 10 other families, promptly left "free" bingo. They told us we could go assure in Nassau but when my inlaws asked they told them it would be several more hours and to listen to an announcement, none was ever made. Finally, we got stuck paying for taxes on our drinks because they moved the boat to Nassau, not that we had access to the island.

I understand these things happen and it's a safety issue ,but that doesn't change how disappointing it is. Port Canaveral isn't much of a port, so this left us with 1 nice beach day the whole week. It would have been nice if they had done some special pool games or activities or something

Do you pay taxes on drinks when docked at every port? I thought it was just NYC.

Once when we couldn't stop and tender at a port on a carnival cruise we were given something like $30 per passenger in our obc account. I assumed that was standard for all cruise lines but i guess not! Fingers crossed we get to stop there when I go in a month - it's my favorite port on the trip.

Nope, they add tax in each port. Just got off the same cruise. Was very dissapointing to miss GSC. The cruise itself was probably the worst I've ever been on. The ship seemed under staffed. Very little information given about anything. It was also some kind of school holiday in NJ, so the ship was full of kids. We were very disappointed.

The breakaway attempted to tender to GSC, it was terminated after 3 tender boats had gone to island. Passengers that made the island were told to return to ship and it spent the day meandering to Nassau. A dock would not be available until 6 pm. Passengers were able to get off the ship after docking and told to be back onboard at 530 following afternoon. Atlantiswas available for no charges that evening, at least the aquarium was free of charge. Now as far as taxes on beverages, while in port in NY. I paid 8.9 percent food and beverage tax on any beverage ordered. In Port Canaveral, I paid 5.4 percent food and beverage tax. And no tax while at sea or in Nassau.
