Last time we were in St. Kitts we went to Shipwreck Beach and my little one was able to see monkeys running around...Super cool. We were thinking about going to the Marriott this time. Will we also be able to see monkeys if we go to the Marriott? St. Kitts is so beautiful!! Afraid that sitting at the Marriott won't do St. Kitts justice. Thoughts?? TIA:))

no monkeys there but it is a beautiful resort and beach. If you just want to see monkeys then go back to shipwreck. It's rustic and quirky and the food is pretty good. There is pretty good snorkeling right in front of the Marriott on the reef if you like that. At shipwreck, there is snorkeling to the left. I have been to both shipwreck and Marriott so it depends what you want for the day. I was at the Marriott 3 weeks ago and loved the pool and the beach.

We will be in St. Kitts next week and are very interested in going to the Marriott so have a couple of questions.

- Do you need to reserve in advance or can we just show up and pay at the front desk for the day pass??

- How far is it from the pier and how much is a taxi ride??

Thanks,

Andrea

I'm curious if you did this. Also wondering how far it is from the pier and how much was the taxi ride.

You can show up and pay for day pass. You will have to Google the taxi rates. We paid $18 one way total for a family of 6. And its about 15 minutes.

Here is what they sent me in an email:

Thank you for contacting us about your upcoming vacation. We do offer day passes and day rooms based on availability.

DAY PASS

The cost for the day pass would be $35.00 USD per adult and children 17 and under are complimentary with a paying adult.

The day passes entitle you to:

• Use of the facilities including 3 pools and beach

• Use of beach cabanas and lounge chairs by the beach and at the pool

• 15% discount on treatments at the Emerald Mist Spa

• 10% discount on food and beverage at Bohemia Pool & Beach Bar, Calypso Café, Calypso Restaurant, and the Pizza Shack

• 10% discount in Pronto Gift Shop

You do not need to make reservations or confirm in advance. If you would like to utilize the facilities, please stop by the front desk upon arrival and they will issue the day passes to you.

DAY ROOM

The cost for the day room would be $125.00 USD plus 24.5% tax and service charge for the day. It includes the room for the day and access to the property for two adults and two children. It entitles you to the same benefits as the day pass listed above.

I did double check the taxi rates. We did pay $18 each way for a total of $36 not including tip. I will say that the beach is huge. I did not notice much seaweed. Waves were nice. And I did see fish when I snorkeled (I have my own gear but you can rent there). There is a reef to the left and my husband and I saw a lot. Pool was nice. Drinks were decent. There's a Ram's food mart 1/2 mile away. I really liked it there and so did my family of 2 teenagers and 2 20 somethings; plus my husband.

Would you recommend Marriott, Carambola, or Shipwreck for a 10 year old who is an avid swimmer and snorkeler? I have reserved spots at Carambola, but I'm afraid it may be too dull for her, even if we walk down to Shipwreck. Thoughts?

We were planning on trying to do a day pass on January 19th so I called the Marriott to see if they would reserve 2 for us (obviously they won't, but I tried). They said that if available, it would be $35 per person.

I also stumbled upon a website called "Resort for a Day" that says they can guarantee a day pass at the Marriott for $59 per person. Has anyone done this? Not sure if it's legit, but I might pay $14 extra for the piece of mind.

We were at the Marriott last week. It was not crowded at all. Be aware that food is expensive. We paid $57 for lunch for three people and that included one person who just got fries and a drink. Also, they do not accept cash so make sure you have a debit or credit card.

I would check the "fine print" on the Resort for a Day site. If the resort is full, do you get your money refunded? 100% refund? It may be a quick and easy way to make reservations for a day pass but the resort has the option of honoring the request. If it is a busy time they are going to take care of their regular guests first.

We booked the pass through "Resort for a Day" and it was just fine. We got there early enough and had no trouble getting a chair and umbrella. However, there was a lot of seaweed the day we went, but there was a tractor there going and raking it up. Like a previous post said, they don't take cash, so make sure you have a debit/credit card and it is expensive. It was almost $60 for my wife and I, but that did include 2 pina coladas which were $10 each.

We were at the Marriott last week for the day, saw no seaweed at the beach, had no advance reservations and paid $35 pp directly upon checking in at the front desk. Enjoyed it so much, going back in March for the day, taxi cost was approx. $5 pp and there were plenty of taxis to take us back to the port.

We did a day pass at the Mariott last week and it was AMAZING. My husband and I caught a taxi at the port; it was $12 (total) from the port to the Mariott and about a 10-15 minute cab ride. The Mariott keeps taxis cued up out front at all times, so hopping a cab back was simple.

Day passes are issued based on availability and capacity of guests staying at the resort, so it may be helpful to call ahead. The cost was $35 (U.S. dollars) per person and the pass gets you access to all areas of the resort, and includes the beach cabanas. It also included a discount on food (which was delicious!) and free Wifi (we were able to FaceTime our kids at home, which was awesome). We arrived around 10:30 a.m. and snagged one of the last cabanas on the beach, so if you want a cabana, get there early!

The facilities and grounds were wonderful. The staff was attentive and helpful. It was not at all crowded. It was peaceful, quiet, and relaxing- exactly everything we had hoped for. There are gorgeous views of Nevis from the beach and the poolside cafe. The beach is very wide, but the surf (at least on the day we were there) can get a bit rough since the resort is on the Atlantic side (so maybe not the best if you want to swim at the beach, but perfect for lounging!).

We ended up taking a Taxi at the end of the day to tour the Southern Peninsula (HIGHLY recommend this!), so we also saw Cockleshell Beach and Carambola Beach. Both beaches have beautiful views, but were exceptionally crowded. We were extremely happy that we'd chosen the Mariott for the day!

If the monkeys and mongoose are still at shipwreck, she may like that as well as the snorkeling. Food is cheaper at shipwreck.

Shipwreck

Animals are still there (arrive late afternoon), but the beach is not.

Washed away!

Still good for snorkelling, and the food/drinks are excellent.

Sun beds are free.

Was the snorkeling much worse or better at Marriott vs Shipwreck or about the same? (I know it varies by day, weather, etc...just hoping for a general idea.)

I thought it was good at both. Remember st kitts Isn't a big snorkeling island like curacao or bonaire. It depends what you want for the day. I had a great time at both but have to give marriott the edge because of beach and pool

Thank you...much appreciated. Marriott does sound nice.

What marriot do you tell the cabby that you want to go to? Is it the resort with the casino? I thought i saw 2 marriots on the map. Please give the name that you tell the cabby. Thank you!

Only 1 Marriott in St Kitts that I am aware of. Yes they do have a casino which we did spend an hour there gambling before heading back to the port and a few of us won some money plays slots. It was a good day all around for us :)
