Cell phone service off the Ca coast?

I will be going on a Mexican Riviera cruise early next year. We'll be leaving SF and sailing down the coast. Out of curiosity, will the ship be too far at sea to get reception from Verizon?

Agree. Plus you will be pretty good distances off land, due to regulations, at almost all times. Cell signals aren't that strong.

No you won't get local cell service for most of the trip while sailing the coast.

Okay, thanks for the info. It's been a while since I've cruised and I was unsure how technology has changed.

We just got off the Miracle for a Thanksgiving Cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Going down the coast we were about 15 miles off the coast. No cell service.

Be sure to put your phone on airplane mode or it will eat your battery roaming for cell service.

 

I purchased the ships Internet service and that was slower than what I'm used to at home, but fast enough to be just fine at sea. We could even Face Time with my son in Ohio.

 

The ship does offer phone service from your cabin for $1.99 (I think this is per minute, not per call) where you can call home.

 

On land in Mexico, if you with Verizon, you can get regular cell service without roaming charges.
