Thunder storms- will ship reroute?

Going on the Constellation, leaving Thursday from FLL to Key West and Bahamas. Forecast is calling for thunderstorms. Do the ships usually reroute to avoid the bad weather?

Hurricanes yes -- thunderstorms -- no - not that I have ever seen. BTW - down in these parts - it can pour on one side of the street and not the other, they come and they go quickly most of the time. You'll have a great time regardless of the weather!

Jane - It all depends on the severity and if the schedule allows for a change in course. On a TA they will change several hundred miles to seek calmer water. On a Bahamas or Caribbean cruise they have only an hour or two of slack in the schedule so can only detour a bit or slow down/speed up to try and provide a smoother ride. Have seen all of the 3 happen.

Thunderstorms this time of year and in this general area tend to be quick and hurry on their way. They are usually connected with a cool front passing through. I say "cool front" because we don't often have a true "cold front" here and and even if we do they last only a day or two or three. Fonts come in waves down here in the winter and alternate with days of idyllic weather. I hope your cruise is mostly that famous Caribbean weather.

We see Caribbean thunderstorms as sound and light shows and enjoy!

 

As others have said they never last long!

 

A thunderstorm is always a good excuse to call in a bar and enjoy a nice drink....
