Breakaway 14 Day Southern Caribbean Review with lots of pictures (and the Haven)

I just wanted to add that there were a few nights that we had Melissa in Splash Academy and Mike and I wanted a bite to eat. Even though we were staying in the Haven, we aren't people that will ask for the Butler to bring food from restaurants. I know that's what is supposed to be done, but besides a few times of regular room service orders, we chose to get "take out" from O'Sheehan's. They list the special in the Freestyle Dailies.

We had:

Hot and mild chicken wings - always available and really good. Melissa loved them and she doesn't normally like them. We had these a few nights.

One night I brought back 2 Orders of Chicken Tikka Masala. It was ok. There were nice big chunks of chicken but the rice was kind of bland.

Another night we had Beef Goulash. Again it was ok. The Beef was good, but the noodles were all stuck together.

To do take out, you go to the hostess and let her know that you would like food to go. She swipes your key card and tells you to go to a specific table. There a server will take your order. You tell them what you want and make sure they know it's to go. Your food comes out, plated but covered in saran wrap and with lids on a tray so you can carry it easily. They also gave me utensils and packets of salt and pepper. Usually, once I placed my order, I would go over to the bar and get drinks (sodas, or pops as some on theses boards say ;) ). Having the tray made it easy for me to carry 2 plates of food and 2 drinks. I would usually send Mike upstairs ahead of me and he would get the table set up and sometimes get us one last alcoholic beverage for the night. :D

Other specials that were offered but we didn't get were:

Chicken Kiev

Rainbow Trout

Prime Rib

Roast Turkey

Spare Ribs

Roasted Pork Loin

Chicken Fry (Fried Chicken)

I'm pretty sure there were other specials that I'm just not remembering right now. I'll have to check the dailies again to see.

Also, most nights after picking Melissa up from Splash Academy, she would be hungry. Knowing we had just had our late night snack that she wouldn't have liked, I would take her to the Garden Cafe for pizza, fries, and sometimes some ice cream. It was a fun ritual.

They also had theme nights in the Garden Cafe. Those were also listed in the dailies as well.

They had themes like Mexican, German, Asian, etc.

Best of health to you Joann, from a fellow Long Islander (Bellmore, NY). Thank you again for sharing your story, makes me realize I need to follow up on a few of my own health issues.

Love the detailed review of your cruise, we are booked on the 9 day Caribbean (San Juan, St Thomas, Tortola) and Bermuda cruise on the Breakaway on 7/1/16. We are staying in the 2 bedroom family villa suite in the Haven on deck 15, 15118. We actually stayed in that same room last year, on a 7 day Bermuda cruise on 6/28/15, it's the opposite set up from the room your were in.

The link below is a little video I finally got around to finishing of the room, in case anyone is interested. Thanks again.

I was talking to CD Dan Dan today and he is going to give your review a read. I know he gets a bad rep on CC sometimes but he's ok in my book.

Thanks for sharing it with him. He was coming onboard when we left so we didn't get him. Maybe we'll have to book again when he's the CD and try him out. :D

Hi everyone. I just got back from our cruise yesterday and will get started on the review a little later this afternoon. I just wanted to say that it was the cruise of a lifetime, but aren't they all? I usually plan, plan, plan but this was kind of a surprise so I didn't really have the chance. There's SO much to write about but before I do, I need to finish organizing my photos. I have over 1000 to review and share, and get the dailies scanned so I can share them as well.

On that note, I'll go get started and be back later.

Just a heads up, this is going to be a long one. :D

Hi JoAnn,

Seems like a lifetime ago (way back in January) when I first read your review in anticipation of our upcoming cruise. We are staying in the same room (15104) that you and your family stayed.

In anticipation of our upcoming sailing this Sunday, I just re-read your review and cannot wait! We really appreciate your review and all the great pics!

Just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!

Happy sails Rich! Be sure to say Hello to everyone. You are going to have a blast and get spoiled. Please let us know how you enjoyed your cruise when you get back.

If your room steward is Ven, tell him we said Blah Blah Blah! But I think he was going on vacation soon after our cruise.

Thanks so much! I can't wait to go on another cruise. But we are moving soon so we may have to wait until 2017

Our daughter wants us to go on a cruise for our 15th wedding anniversary and renew our vows. I think she may be on to something. That would be December 2017. :D

JoAnn, Thank you so much for sharing your story and cruise with us. My dear friend is sailing on Sunday 8/21/16 to Bermuda on the Breakaway and its her first cruise. We had so much fun reading your thread and she's beside herself with excitement! I've been cruising since 1989 and sailed on the Breakaway Haven Spa Suite in November of 2014. I'm also a breast cancer survivor ( 8 years and counting ). We're booked to cruise on the Breakaway Haven Spa Suite again 11/13/16. My sister and brother in law will also be sailing with us ( their first time in the Haven ) to celebrate their 25th anniversary. I mentioned your thread to her and she's excited to read it as well. I told her I loved how thorough you were with your synopsis of the cruise and I loved looking at your pictures. I feel like you're family! Again, Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi!

Just finished reading this and wanted to say I loved your report! We just got off the breakaway to Bermuda and I feel like I must have been on a different ship LOL! Where were all the people on your cruise?? We were wall to wall crowds all day and all night on our trip!

Anyway, I have to ask, totally off topic, is that Molly from the Big Comfy Couch on your daughter's bed??? My girls loved Molly when they were little and we have one Molly doll that has seen lots of "love" but I have not seen any in stores for years (my girls are in their late teens early 20s!)

Hope you're feeling well! Thanks again for such a wonderful report with great pics!

Thanks so much for your kind words. I wish your friend smooth sailing. Oh who am I kidding? She's going to have a freaking awesome time no matter how the seas are!

Congrats to you my fellow sister survivor! We are family. :D

We are planning on booking the same room again for next December. It will be our 15th wedding anniversary and we want to renew our vows on Great Stirrup Cay. How amazing would that be?

Thanks so much for reading along. I think that because we were on a 14 day cruise right after the new year it made a difference in the crowds. There were a lot of people onboard, but certainly less than during a summer cruise.

And yes, that is Molly from the Big Comfy Couch! She has 2 real sized Molly's and 2 18 inch Molly's. The 2 big ones come everywhere with her (overnight). We found them on eBay, the first one around 7 or 8 years ago. We bought the 2nd one because she had puked all over the first one and we weren't sure we could get her clean. (Her shoes are leather and can't be removed) As you can see, we were able to get her clean

We even had the clock rug! She really loved that show.

JoAnn, what an incredible story of your breast cancer journey and review of your Breakaway Haven experience. It took quite a few days to read all of your posts and marvel at the amazing photographs. Thank you for sharing so much - I can't wait for our first cruise on the Breakaway on January 2nd! I have learned so much from you - what to look forward to in the Haven, what to pre-plan, what to eat, etc.! It looks like you may be on this cruise too and if so, I hope we run into each other. Till then, happy holidays and happy sailing!

I've done several cruise with NCL and 2 with Carnival and always am daydreaming of the next. We have a Gem 10 day booked for 2018 but I've been thinking about grabbing one for Feb-2017 as well. Hmmm...last minute perhaps.
