Member Posted October 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2005 Is there one available online somewhere? Just curious at how the seatings are being arranged?
timbo89 Posted October 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2005 I'm not sure it would help you too much. Everyone is seated when they arrive to dine. If you have a specific preference, such as seated by a window, table for two, dine with larger group to meet new friends, etc. etc. the Maitre'd will be more than accomodating. Member Posted October 7, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted October 7, 2005 It may help to put the group dinners, if any, in better prospective.
drwong Posted October 7, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2005 The deck plans on Oceania's website show the seating arrangements for the Grand Dining Room (as well as for Toscana, the Polo Grill, and the Terrace). If you're planning a large group dinner, the tables are fixed to the deck, so you're limited by that pre-set arrangement. However, there is the "Captain's Table" in the rear of the GDR that can handle a dozen or so guests, including the captain, should you choose to invite him. But as Onslow once remarked, "Who wants to eat with the crew???" :D
FinelyCruising Posted October 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2005 It would sure be easy to chat about "things" sitting with them :D

Member Posted October 9, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted October 9, 2005 I think I get a pretty good picture of the GDR seating now. May I know more about the "Upper Hall" section on level 5 near the GDR? Is it a an extension of the GDR for dinner?

When we were on Insignia they had a quartet playing there in the evening.
Member Posted October 9, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted October 9, 2005 So I think it is more part of the bar area. Thanks.
Rare LHT28 Posted October 9, 2005 #10 Share Posted October 9, 2005 So I think it is more part of the bar area. Thanks. No it is closer to the shops and the "Grand Staircase"
PurpleCow Posted October 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted October 9, 2005 There is a small seating area that is part of the bar area, right in front of the podium where the maitre 'd stands.
ClaudiaF Posted October 10, 2005 #12 Share Posted October 10, 2005 You can't "dine " there.. it is really the bar.. and the area near the shops is really a seating area.. you could take a drink there .
PurpleCow Posted October 10, 2005 #13 Share Posted October 10, 2005 I didn't mean you could "dine" there. It's just a sitting area where people gather as they wait to be seated. There are some chairs and a loveseat or two. And the bar.
drwong Posted October 10, 2005 #14 Share Posted October 10, 2005 I think you're confusing the Grand Bar with the Upper Hall (although this is the first time anyone has asked about that area, as far as I can recall!). The Grand Bar is the lounge immediately adjacent to the GDR, where one can order a drink while waiting for a table. The Upper Hall, on the other hand, is beyond the Grand Bar and the elevator lobby, near the boutiques at the top of the main staircase above the Concierge Desk (hence, the designation, "Upper Hall). There's no bar there, but there are a few couches and chairs and a baby grand piano. Older Oceania Cruisers may recall that's the location of the former Advance Sales desk, and the art auction sales desk.
PurpleCow Posted October 10, 2005 #15 Share Posted October 10, 2005 Perhaps this will help answer the original question. Dining area is highlighted in yellow:
Member Posted October 11, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Thank for outlining the GDR chart out. Has there much use of the "dance floor" shown on the upper left hand corner?

raffeer Posted October 11, 2005 #18 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Thank for outlining the GDR chart out. Has there much use of the "dance floor" shown on the upper left hand corner? At one time musicians were stationed there during dinner making conversation in the immediate area difficult if not impossible. I don't believe the space was ever used for dancing. Druke I Posted October 11, 2005 #19 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Reference the dancing area in the Grand Dining Room - on Regatta last month there were tables in that section - it is where we normally ate dinner, served by an excellent Indonesian (from Bali) waiter, Imade. What they should have during dinner in the Grand is the violinists that were entertaining so beautifully in Toscano ...on our last cruise..they were fabulous..
