We reserved cabin 1141 aft AQ for our first Celebrity experience doing a California coastal Oct. 2017. I'm stumbling upon some threads talking about noise from above at the new Rooftop Terrace with movies or music. Can anyone speak to this issue who might have been there....?? The added cost of an A1 AQ won't be worth it if we have bad noise problems.......thanks in advance.

There are certainly quieter cabin locations. The rooftop terrace and the Sunset Bar will both provide noise at certain times of the day. We like aft cabins but would be in a location with cabins both above and below us.

We had 1140 on our Panama Canal transit. I never noticed a noise problem. But then that was before the movie's were added on deck 12. There was a soot problem, but you can get your steward to sweep. You will find the veranda to be pretty deep too.

We had 1141 on Panama Canal and South America itineraries after the addition of the Rooftop Terrace. No noise from the terrace or from Oceanview Bar with slider shut. Minimal noise while sitting inside with slider open on shore days. While at sea, sitting inside with slider open, the sound of the ocean masks noise from terrace and Oceanview Bar. There is some noise from Oceanview Bar when sitting on the balcony but not nearly as much if you were actually at the bar. Again, the ocean masks quite a bit of the noise. Some noise from above during the day. We weren't on the balcony at night. If you like to sit on the balcony in near silence other than the noise of the ocean, pick a different cabin.

We loved 1141 and would book again without hesitation. The view, especially through the Panama Canal, is fantastic.

I posted several pictures on the Infinity section of the boards. Just search for Rooftop Terrace.

BTW - As rnrcruzin stated, there was soot but the cabin attendant took care of it. No big deal.

Why is soot not as much a health concern as cigarette smoke is? Is soot not as dangerous to breathe in as tobacco smoke? Just curious to learn about the statistics.

The toxicology of inhaled particulates shows that particle size is extremely important in whether the "bad stuff" can get into the deeper lung regions. Cigarette smoke has very small particles; soot is primarily carbon and the particles are much larger than the former.

Still, soot is not completely safe either as in the classic cases of chimney sweeps that got lung cancer after years of exposure to soot from burning wood/coal.
