Wendy The Wanderer Posted April 28, 2016 #26 Share Posted April 28, 2016 ... Just replying really just to say, I wasnt suggesting people who dont drink and (take the tours) think they are subsidising others..... its just a reality and I was drawing conclusions purely based on the packages for alcohol on other ships.... It's also a reality that some people don't frequent specialty restaurants. Or fitness classes. Or the self-service laundries. I know maybe these aren't as significant, but on a mass market line, you have to pay for all of these things.

flossie009 Posted April 28, 2016 #28 Share Posted April 28, 2016 Most importantly, make sure that you book with a TA that has experience booking luxury cruises (specifically Regent if possible). Two of Regent's three (and a half) ships have a significant aft vibration. An experienced TA will know this and will steer you in the right direction. Many TA's that book luxury cruises give a percentage of the cruise fare back (5-10% is the "norm") and TA's give OBC's on most cruises. "Discount sites" do not necessarily have the best deal so look around. I see that les37b is from the UK where TAs operate in a subtly different manner to the US. In the UK most TAs who specialise in cruising will offer 5 to 10% discount up-front on the fares quoted on the Regent website
motone Posted April 30, 2016 #29 Share Posted April 30, 2016 We're also from the UK and our travel agent give us a very good discount, but only on the cruise price less any cruise discounts we might have, e.g. early booking discounts etc. Not sure if US passengers get discounts from their TAs but we know from experience that they always seem to have onboard credit, whereas we in the UK don't. Our "gripe" if you can call it that with Regent is their luggage labels. For a six star ship, why do the passengers have to write their own name and suite number on the labels? Silversea use laser printers to print their luggage labels and it looks so much more professional. Perhaps this is something that Regent could look at in the future, especially with the Explorer and the very new ship (yet to be built) coming up. I just got back a week ago from the Wind and we had to write our own luggage labels! It did come with a single credit card plastic card with address on it though.... but only one.
