Bicycle in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Tallinn and Raga.

Recommended Posts

Has anyone rent the bicycle or take the bicycle tour. How the road, flat or incline. I am not physical fit and do not like bicycle up hills. We will be in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Tallinn and Raga and might rent a bike to paddle around but not sure how the level the road are, please give us your experience.

Also do they have 2 seats bike to rent?

Copenhagen is flat as a pancake. The city is very bicycle friendly, but the cyclists are hard core. Our guide called the bike lane the "kill zone." Tallinn is overall flat, but the old town has serious cobbles and would not be easily cyclable (maybe with a mountain bike?) We spent very little time in Helsinki proper but it looked very bike friendly and flat as well. There's a gorgeous waterfront and park that looked easy to cycle.

Yes, In Copenhagen they ride as their means of transportation, not a leisurely spin around town. I'm not sure if they rent bikes at the Fort in Helsinki but that would be a great place to ride a bike. . .

We took a small group guided bike tour in Copenhagen. It was not for the faint of heart! We finished the tour at the end of the business day and start of bicycle rush hour. A few of us lost sight of Mike among the thousands of helmetted bikers and had no clue as to where we were headed. We followed the wisdom that says if lost it's best to remain in place and sure enough Mike returned to lead us back to his shop.

It was a good tour overall but not the leisurely ride I'd imagined!

Here's a standard sidewalk in Copenhagen. Our guide told us children begin riding in general traffic around age 7-8. The airport baggage area has a bike tire air hose. Cycling is a serious thing in Denmark. The Danish people are super friendly, I don't mean to scare anyone. They just take community cycling and transportation to a level that I'm pretty sure doesn't even exist in the US.

Thank you for the information. I think I will walk in Copenhagen instead of renting a bike :) But in Tallinn and Riga the small town seems more relax than Copenhagen for biking, I hope.
