Does anyone know how Divina now handles disembarking pasengers who want to take their luggage off? We were on her 2 years ago and it was a disaster and very stupidly handled and I do not want to go through it again. Thanks

Same disaster as on any other line or ship. Cruise line will not provide you with any help you have to care out your lagged by yourself. You have to be first one out but in reality what can they do to stupid people who did not get a part "first one out" and will roll over you with luggage ?

I am curious about this too as we plan to take our own luggage on our short cruise next weekend...

If you have kids and don't have early flight don't do it. Really it's a mess and no one from crew will help you. Even to get for elevator will be problem.

I've always opted for self-disembarkation (also known as Express Disembarkation) and much prefer it. Why is it such a mess on MSC?

I typically just wheel myself to the lift, down to the gangway, and leave. The whole point is that nobody helps you; isn't that the benefit?

We were told to wait in the Piazza for our turn to get off. When we got there, there was an earlier group leaving. One entrance to the piazza was closed off and they had people coming in to wait pulling luggage while they were leading people out with luggage - in and out in the same corridor with luggage going in both directions - not good. The logical way to do it would have been to have the first group going off with luggage going out one side and the second group entering the waiting area from the other side. They also had people crossing through the line pulling luggage. People were tripping over each other and falling and tempers were high. We take our luggage off on most cruise lines and have never had a problem like this even on Oasis class ships.

We have done it 6x and it's handled beautifully.

They are not supposed to help you!!!!! If you can't handle it then don't choose it, they make it very clear.

I get they don't help and we don't need help. I just want to know if they just announce ok to go or do they make you go to a specific place and lead you out like the did when we were there. What is their procedure?

They put you in a lounge and when it's time they let you go, but not everyone who is doing self assist gets put in 1 lounge , they divide you you into several lounges. It's very organized.

Well, you are alone ,no kids with one luggage, going on proper time ? No problem . If you have 2 kids ,stroller ,luggage ,carry on and you pass your time to go out , its different)

You go to place and they lead you out. At least it was like this 2 years ago.

Surely the self-disembarkation is for people like me who can manage all of their luggage in one go without assistance. It's designed to be more flexible for those who can manage on their own.

If you have all of that stuff and need more than one trip (or assistance) wouldn't you be obviously better just using the standard disembarkation where your luggage is remove from the ship for you, and you can get help from a porter in the port?

Don't MSC make that clear on the paperwork? I know Celebrity and Royal make it very clear when requesting self-disembarkation that no assistance is available and you need to disembark the ship with all of your luggage at the same time.

I don't see how it's possible for anyone to have been caught out by this.

Does anyone know if the departure lounge is on the same deck as the ramp to get off of the ship? Meaning that we don't have to go up or down by stairs or elevator from the lounge to get off of the ship.

I was on the Liberty of the Seas one time and we had to walk down 3 flights of stairs with our luggage to get off of the ship. That was not any fun.

Thanks.

Departure lounge all over the ship. That's why I don't suggest it unless you have very good reason to

Thanks. But, I was specifically asking about the walk off departure lounges as discussed at the beginning of the thread.

Does anyone know? Thanks again

They use four of them for self-assist. Two aft (Black & White Lounge and La Cantina di Bacco) both located on Deck 7. The aft debarkation occurs on Deck 7. The other two use the midship debarkation on Deck 6 from the Casino Veneziano and the Piazza del Doge. Times range from 6:30AM to 7:15AM. Obviously this can change depending on the sailing. And no - typically no up and down stairs.

Hope this helps.

I did self assist debarkation last April- no issues at all. My meeting time was 6:45 and I was assigned to black and white lounge. Went down about 7 and walked straight from elevator to the "ding" off the ship with no line. Was at Miami airport within 30 minutes.

I also debarked today from YC and it's a mess. The divina got in late due to a medical emergency. They did not start debarkation on time; therefore those with non self-assist were barging into those with self assist. We debarked from deck 7 today mid ship and it was a cluster of a mess. The Butlet walked us straight to the front of the line. The only time this week I felt the butler came in super handy.

I am sure some people will blame MSC for the medical emergency.
