Looking to book a cruise 26th Aug-2nd Sept next year to mark a special birthday and just want somewhere for a week but specifically that week. Have seen a cruise to the Fjords that week and wonder about the weather that late. Has anyone been that late in the year or can you offer any advice about the likely weather.

Yes, our very first cruise was to the fiords and started on 2nd or 3rd September. The weather was fine - dry and generally 'alright' - much like a British summer.

The thing about the fiords is that you can have brilliant or awful weather at pretty much any time of their season. The scenery tends to make up for it. Anyway, as the Norwegians say ' There's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing'.

We cruised the fjords in August last year on Azura. The weather was warm and sunny every day. Even the North sea was unexpectedly kind. We have been to Norway several times in late summer and although you are likely to get a bit of rain at some point, it should still be warm. The best part of a fjords cruise is the scenery and this will be spectacular no matter what the weather. Hope you book it and have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks, feel a bit more reassured, We''ve been to Fjords twice before but never that late in the year, we have been in June and July before and always had good weather.

We were there at the same time last year and had good weather and no rain but we may have been lucky. It was reasonably warm except up in the mountains and on open top buses so be prepared.

Some passengers on our excursion up the mountain one day were wearing shorts, flip flops and no coats! I had four layers and was still cold.I dont know what sort of cruise they thought they were on I think they were looking for a beach!

We recently went to the fjords on Azura, and found an excellent trip in Bergen. It was organised by the Bergen tourist office, and visited the home of Edvard Grieg. The coach left at 11.00 from the tourist office, and included a tour of the small house with a guide, some free time to visit the gardens or coffee shop. Then at 1.00 there was a short concert, which was very atmospheric to listen to the music where it had been composed. Coach returned to Bergen approx 2.30, and I think the cost was 250nkr. P and O also do a visit, but they did not include the concert, and it was more expensive.
