Veendam dinner attire question . . .

We have found on the smaller ships like the Veendam, late, fixed-dining in the Upper Dining Room one still sees a nice degree of formality on Gala Night, but by no means everyone. This is where black tie and gowns still show up with some regularity, though less and less each cruise. My guess is those who choose this late, fixed dining are maybe more cruise traditionalists in the first place.

Thanks for your replies. We will dress nice and my hubby will probably wear a tie. It is just too hard to pack light and include men's dress jackets. We are not flying home after the cruise and don't want more than our carry-on to cart around. We are getting good at packing light. One suitcase each, carry-on size for 5 weeks in New Zealand last year.

The convenience of having a self laundry on board makes packing lightly much easier.

A plaid or subdued print shirt is versatile and looks good with a plain tie.

You are obviously very versatile yourselves and I am sure you'll both look great!

For a woman, an easy pack weightless chiffon "float" top or even a sparkly large shawl looks good enough if you want to dress up a bit for that night. They still sell those $10 wraps in the ship store, along with some of the $10 costume jewelry sets if you feel you want to do something special.
