40yearcruiser Posted August 24, 2016 #26 Share Posted August 24, 2016 But the nice thing is that if you own at least 100 shares of stock in Carnival Corporation (CCL) you can get OBC when you cruise on ANY of the lines under their umbrella. You can try different lines and still get the perk (and unlike RCCL it is combinable with any other special offers)!
Iamcruzin Posted August 24, 2016 #27 Share Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) That's true. So tell that to the several posters of late who wonder why Carnival's loyalty points don't count on Princess because "Carnival owns Princess: Some of those posters may have been Royal Caribbean passengers who were able to share their loyalty status on both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. They may be questioning why the same treatment isn't shared among the Carnival Brands. Corfe Mixture Posted August 24, 2016 #28 Share Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) ......... Carnival Corp announced about a year or so ago that they were making moves to stop the competition between the 10 different cruise lines. ........ They need to be very careful that they do not fall foul of the EU Competition Commission. EU history is littered with examples of drug companies, airline etc being fined very heavily for acting as a cartel. They particularly don't like competitors with the same ultimate owner acting in concert and creating a false illusion of competition. Even if Carnival was not dual listed it is not only Uncle Sam who has long arms when looking at uncompetitive behaviour by overseas Corporations. The EU has track record of coming down very hard if they conclude the use of multiple brand names are being, or even, as in the case of Lloyds /TSB /Halifax/Bank of Scotland, could potentially be, used to create a false market and could make disposing of some of the Carnival brand names serving the European market a condition of them continuing to operate in Europe. At the moment it would appear not to be a problem as Carnival Corporation & Plc are perceived as offering different products serving different market sectors and actively competing with each other. However, statements announcing they are 'making moves to stop the competition between the 10 different cruise lines' are unlikely to down well in Brussels.
