ms Zaandam in Juneau, AK - August 25, 2016

ms Zaandam, the 3rd of HAL's four "R"-class vessels, is scheduled for an early morning arrival in Juneau, AK, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 0800 (08:00 am) local. She is assigned to go alongside the Alaska Steamship (AS) dock. Her departure time is set for 1800 hrs. (6:00 pm)

The two other cruise ships in port, in order of appearance, are Celebrity Infinity assigned the Cruise Terminal (CT) dock (0730-2200) and NCL's Norwegian Sun, going to the Alaska Juneau (AJ) dock (1100-2100)

I don't know that we'll see anything before they enter the harbor and even that is iffy - the fog seems to be rolling toward the camera.

The harbor is pretty with the lights and the fog. It's 55 degrees.

X past Thane so she should be coming out of the fog shortly.

Infinity has called in and asked about visibility in harbor. I'm guessing that that is her horn we're hearing. Fog is usually pretty dampening to sound carrying very far.

 

At least the fog has pushed back a little, it had been creeping past the outer docks/piers.

Infinity pilot letting ZADM's pilot know about their progress in berthing (might still be using azipods when ZADM approaches the harbor). These guys (and two ladies) all know each other and constantly communicate with each other. Most come onboard when the ships reach Kake, AK and then stay for four-five days onboard, usually Ketchikan, after which the whole routine starts over with others cruise ships

Gangway shell, or break, door can't be over a bollard because the gangway can't be deployed that way so..............ship has to move a couple of meters forward or astern to clear hat bad boy
