Pstreet12 Posted September 30, 2016 #26 Share Posted September 30, 2016 IMHO, I rather suspect the availability of an Unlimited internet plan might well have to do as much with where the ship is cruising as well as which ship it is. It seems to me the ability to connect with land based cell towers, and not depend on satellite access, might well play a major role. The Caribbean, Panama Canal and Alaska inland passage and some European cruises would be good examples. Scott & Karen With Royal Caribbean, we had decent internet on a transatlantic, and truly excellent internet in the Caribbean, so it isn't the ship's location that automatically means "non-existant and slow when in existance." We also had good internet on the Prinsendam on a transatlantic as well. Never hit that "black spot" where there is no reception ;) in contrast to the South Pacific which was the worst we have ever experienced :(
sapper1 Posted September 30, 2016 #28 Share Posted September 30, 2016 We also had good internet on the Prinsendam on a transatlantic as well. Never hit that "black spot" where there is no reception ;) in contrast to the South Pacific which was the worst we have ever experienced :( As you know, we were on the same cruise and agree that there was never an interruption of service on the Prinsendam TA. Where we did experience an interruption for at least a day was on a TA on the Eurodam where we took a very northern route via Iceland and Greenland. The captain forewarned us that this would happen because of the ship's position vis a vis the satellite. The interruption was expected and explained and therefore people were not upset. This was not the case on our mutual recent South Pacific cruise where the front desk fudged and denied a problem. People are far more accepting when they don't feel they are being patronized and/or lied to.
lynn2002 Posted September 30, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 30, 2016 What is the internet service like on an Alaska cruise from Seattle to Kodiak and back?
RuthC Posted September 30, 2016 #30 Share Posted September 30, 2016 What is the internet service like on an Alaska cruise from Seattle to Kodiak and back? I've always found it about the same as any other HAL cruise in a well-traveled area. Kodiak is not all that far north as to lose service, and it's a populated area, so does have service.
