October on the Sky

I booked my airfare on a Jetblue sale, So I was ready to book the Sky for Oct. 31st, when I saw that Great stirrup cay was closed right now! They say it should be open by then, but honestly that is the only reason I want to do this cruise again. We did it last December and had a nice time but I don't really care for the other two ports. Does anyone know anything about this?? Torn between this and trying the Enchantment of the Seas (same time). Appreciate any input!!

If GSC is listed as a port of call on that cruise, then it is a port of call. What other question do you have?

You will one of the first to experience the new and improved GSC.

Going on Sky (last time was in April) soon and wont be able to enjoy GSC. I too don't care for the other two ports so I'm planning on enjoying what the Sky has to offer for the 3 days away from Miami. Rehabbing from knee surgery so the gym will likely get some time and I like the steam room as well. The pool area is relaxing and entertaining. My Bride likes the casino so I will hang there with her even though I don't participate. The casino staff and I had fun the last time so I'm looking forward to seeing them again. Saw a couple entertaining shows so that is another option. They'll have football on the big screen on Mon and Thu nights. If quietness is your choice, the forward deck is good for sunning, reading, sleeping, etc. There are hot tubs as well. And then there is the bars........ and the food too!

We are sailing on the Sky on the Oct 24th sailing and the first scheduled trip back to GSC, I don't believe all the renovations and improvements will be complete by then as they are scheduled all the way until early next year but parts of the island will be open and avail... Will post a review on the 29th when we are back ......

Hurricane Mathew is heading toward GSC as a mega storm. Even if not a direct hit, GSC is currently close enough that they will have to secure construction for a few days next week. I assume there is nowhere to shelter the construction workers during the storm, so they would have to secure and evacuate the construction workers while the seas are calm enough to get out.

I don't know whether GSC will be open by then, but I did want to point out that the private islands are always at risk for being cancelled if the winds are too high to tender safely. I wouldn't book any cruise just for the private island.

Enchantment of the Seas is a nice ship. Why not give it a try since you've already been on Sky?

  • 3 weeks later...

This may come a little too late to answer your questions, but.....

We are scheduled to leave on Sky on 10/31 and we received an email from NCL on Friday letting us know of the port changes.....

10/31 - Leave Miami

11/1 - Nassau

11/2 - At Sea

11/3 - Key West

11/4 - Back to Miami

Our Vacation Summary was just updated yesterday.

Some people haven't even received/notifications emails yet.

Daughter is leaving 10/30 on the Breakaway - headed to the same ports in the Bahamas as the Sky....AND she has yet to receive an email-----she had to hunt down her TA!

Happy Cruising everyone!

Just saw on another thread that the re-opening date for GSC is now 20 November.

Yes that's the new date NCL emailed us.. Doesn't mean it will be finished just open again . they are scheduled to work on GSC until springtime 2017..
