Kylie Posted October 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2016 Has anyone seen whales off the west coast of Mexico near Cabo while sailing to the Panama Canal in the winter months?
Rare Turtles06 Posted October 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2016 According to my research for our upcoming Panama Canal cruise (in Jan./Feb) during which we have a port call in Cabo, we should be there during the heart of the whale calving and migration season, and plenty of folks have reported seeing whales right from the cruise ship in and around Cabo. We are going to do a whale watching tour in Cabo. (If you haven't done so already, you should do some reading on the Ports of Call/Mexican Riviera Board, where you'll find more Cabo-specific info.) CruiserBruce Posted October 2, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2016 (edited) If you look down the board, you will see many comments about seeing whales around Cabo- it is a great place to see whales, starting in mid December, and going thru March. You will see recommendations to start watching 2 or 3 hours prior to your arrival in Cabo if you are coming south down the coast. You will see comments about seeing whales around the ships as they sit at anchor. Search is your friend. Edit: You would see all this info on the Mexican Rivera board, where Cabo is discussed daily. Kylie Posted October 3, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted October 3, 2016 Our PC cruise doesn't stop in Cabo - we go to Puerta Vallarta so that's why we'll have to be watching from the ship as we pass by!

You specified Cabo. You won't be that close when you sail by, and it will probably be at night.
cb at sea Posted October 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Whales go south in the winter....you will have to be very lucky to see them, however. At sea, even large boats (not SHIPS) are hard to discern...the ocean is HUGE and hides lots of stuff! Good luck...seeing whales is awesome! You might want to consider a whale watching tour in PV. Cabo would be better, but PV is still a possibility. We are going to do a tour in both!
