klfrodo Posted November 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2016 Can you afford to self insure for cancellation. Medical, and possible evacuation?
cargo13 Posted November 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2016 We dont buy the cruise line /NCL insurance because its generally more expensive, only covers the cruise dates (not pre or post times w/ air fare, hotels, rental cars), and its counter intuitive for the provider to insure its own cruise. Compare with http://www.csatravelprotection.com where we have experienced great customer service & CSA paid our claim. If you are booking close to departure and are 100% going you wont need trip cancellation coverages. You can book IN TRIP /post departure coverages--medical, medivac, delays, lost baggage, trip interruption, which in my view are a must because an accident could really wipe you out financially--but call to order this insurance plan from CSA. Its cheaper.
Rare GeezerCouple Posted November 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Thoughts on purchasing the insurance. It could save money not getting it. We ALWAYS purchase travel insurance from a third party insurer, so there is no conflict of interest. We recommend contacting http://www.TripInsuranceStore.com (But CALL, don't just look at the online summaries of the various policies, as the fine print can really matter.) They sell insurance from several good insurers. We happen to use Travel Insured, and we've had two moderately large claims, both paid with no nonsense. For one of the claims, Steve (of TripInsuranceStore) helped us figure out that the situation *was* covered, even though we assumed it wasn't. SO glad we asked him! :) They'll help you find the best match policy for whatever your particular needs/concerns are. Just make absolutely sure that you have coverage for *medical* costs away from home. Some regular insurance policies might not cover medical costs in foreign countries; some do. (Basic medicare does not.)
