goosemay Posted November 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2016 I'm taking a Hawaiian cruise in June of 2018 on Pride of America. I've been on several cruises before and love to find that extra thing on board that makes the trip fun and special. For instance, the Captain's Dinner, albeit an activity that required a phone call and I only learned about by word of mouth,on a Carnival trip was worth every penny. Or last July NCL had free drinks for the entire cruise, which I loved. This cruise, however, doesn't seem to have anything in board that excites me. Excursions and specialty dining aside, is there any advice to find a "hidden activity" that may not be common knowledge like a captain's dinner ? Help! I'm in search of a memorable trip. I'm retiring and taking along some great friends who have never cruised. I'd love to find something customized and different.
spirit rev Posted November 8, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2016 The POA Hawaiian cruise is unlike any other cruise I've been on. The islands were the reason for me while the ship was secondary. Plan your time in port for the special activities. Because you overnight in 2 ports you could even plan a special dinner on shore. We enjoyed both LeBistro and Cagney's for special on board meals. As far as unlimited drinks package - Hawaiian state law prohibits such an offer just as it prohibits the ship from having a casino. Enjoy your planning. You will find a lot of special moments on this trip.

No-one seems to be able to tell me. Did I read somewhere that although there are no formal nights as such on this cruise, there may be a couple of nights when it is a little more formal. Is that correct?

drjdm319 Posted June 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 14, 2017 Book a balcony cabin on the port side; you can relax and enjoy the view on your balcony while the ship cruises along the NaPali coast A few evenings earlier, go to the starboard side for a dramatic view of the lava flow Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Sorry, I can't remember how far out before NCL opens up bookings for shore excursions. I believe they will post it on your My NCL page and perhaps even send an email about info about the cruise. There will be nights when it is suggested that you dress up a little. I didn't see anyone in formal attire on this cruise.
