WeeCountyMan Posted November 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2016 This is new, as far as I can tell. http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/info/thomson-credit-card http://www.thomson.co.uk/blog/2016/11/introducing-the-new-thomson-credit-card/ No % surcharge if you book a Thomsons or First Choice holiday and use this card. Might be worth having simply for this purpose ? Anybody got one already ?

WeeCountyMan Posted November 27, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) Can't see the point myself WCM, always use a debit card. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app Useful(ish) if you want to extend that painful "bottom line" payment due date - pay the deposit only with it, likewise the final balance when due. OK you are just delaying the inevitable, but the funds are better in your bank account accruing interest than in Thomsons. Like good comedy - it's all in the timing :) I wonder if Thomsons will allow cruise onboard accounts to be settled with it @ 0% credit card surcharge fee ? Vitalsign Posted November 28, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2016 We always pay by debit card but now we can earn points and pay off card monthly - wonder if they'll take it off hubby when they don't earn interest from him after the first 3 months - hope not

Over the years I've had a few semi dormant credit cards and never been obliged to close the accounts. Anyway - Thomsons have confirmed that customers can use this new card onboard to settle stateroom accounts without a credit card surcharge fee. Apparently the fee is now 1.5% - whereas I thought it was 2.5% ? Has there been a change recently ? It seems the 1.5% is now a universal credit card surcharge across all Thomsons holidays and cruises etc. - and there is no mention of maximum limit, which was £95.00 I believe ? http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/info/credit-card-payments Edited December 1, 2016 by WeeCountyMan

WeeCountyMan Posted December 1, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted December 1, 2016 Hi - apologies, we may be talking at cross purposes here ? This is from the new credit card FAQs When does the 0% interest on purchases end? The 0% interest period on purchases ends 3 calendar months from the date of account opening. At the end of the offer period, the remaining balance will be moved to your standard purchase rate and will start accruing interest at the standard purchase rate. Please be aware that the 0% rate only applies to purchases and if you use your card to make cash transactions interest at the cash rate will be charged on these transactions I misunderstood what you were meaning. WeeCountyMan Posted December 5, 2016 Author #11 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Update. Contrary to earlier advice Thomson s have now confirmed that a credit card fee will apply in respect of settling onboard accounts if using their new plastic on their ships. The same goes for goods purchased with it onboard their aircraft. In other words, only good for fee free holiday/cruise bookings in a Thomsons shop, or online. :(

WeeCountyMan Posted December 6, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted December 6, 2016 Q. When does a Thomsons credit card holder not enjoy the fee free benefits of his/her card  A. When he/she uses it on a Thomsons ship or a Thomsons aircraft  Could you make this up ?
Sheila49 Posted December 6, 2016 #14 Share Posted December 6, 2016 They don't accept their own prepaid travel money card either! Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
WeeCountyMan Posted December 7, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) They don't accept their own prepaid travel money card either! Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app Sounds just as crazy !!! Could it be because the card is in Euros (?) - and onboard accounts are charged in Sterling ? Sheila49 Posted December 7, 2016 #16 Share Posted December 7, 2016 I suppose that could be it WCM. We just asked if we could pay off our onboard account with it as we found we weren't using it for much else. This was a few years ago. WeeCountyMan Posted December 8, 2016 Author #18 Share Posted December 8, 2016 Twice we've had a complimentary £25 added to our stateroom account after arrival onboard - does that count ?

WeeCountyMan Posted December 8, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted December 8, 2016 I have absolutely no idea why we scored a result with the twice credited £25 and other regular Thomsons cruisers didn't - pure good fortune on our part.
WeeCountyMan Posted December 14, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted December 14, 2016 Either I've lost the plot (no comments please) or Thomsons are "at it" since I posted on 1st Dec. at 03:39pm. The credit card fee has just gone up to 2% from 1.5% - and the £95.00 maximum charge has reappeared within that period. http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/info/credit-card-payments Do they make it up as they go along ? Pensioncruiser Posted December 15, 2016 #22 Share Posted December 15, 2016 Only use my debit card for the deposit for that little bit of security. I realise not everyone can do this and as does Thomson. Sent from my VF-895N using Forums mobile app
