We're 74 days until departure, and this morning Princess offered us an upgrade to a full suite. We've sailed a dozen times before and never experienced this. Is it a regular occurrence, does it get offered to everyone on the ship, or is it random?

It is not a regular occurrence and it does not get offered to everyone the ship. It is not random either. Someone willing to pay may want a cabin like yours (is your category sold out?) and demand for the suites isn't what it normally is. They're offering you an upsell (hopefully at a good rate) and they get to resell your old cabin.

Looks like there is only one other cabin in the category we booked that's available. And now our previous cabin... ;)

Most upgrades used to be free.

It is luck of the draw to get the offer.

it's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

I have always been curious about a suite. I would probably take it, if it was offered. Then I could decide if in the future I want to book suites. :)

The pay-to-upgrade offer may be made to several passengers and the one that responds first gets it.

We took an upsell to a suite in June.

It was a beautiful room, and the breakfast in Sabitinis was lovely.

Sadly, we were on a deck where the suites had no decks and our level deck was used by runners early in the AM -- we complained about the CLOMPING -- but it took almost 5 days for them to do something.

So -- don't take it if it's on that deck
