Kiwi Kruzer Posted December 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2016 (edited) Downtown Auckland and the Waterfront is "going off" according to talkback radio today. Ovation is anchored in the middle of the harbour and the tenders are working their butts off. Looks like they have it set up so 3 can load and unload at the same time. The tenders are the yellow ones on the right of this cam shot. Edited December 26, 2016 by Kiwi Kruzer

MargoK Posted December 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Just home from seeing friends who are onboard. Stayed on the wharf by Te Whero, chatted and had fish and chips! The queue for the tenders to return at 2.30pm were insanely long. Somehow the last tender will be well after 3.00pm as had been advised.

TheRedShirt Posted December 27, 2016 #17 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Would purchasing an official RCI shore excursion give you preference for the tender boats?

tazza_0712 Posted December 27, 2016 #19 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Would purchasing an official RCI shore excursion give you preference for the tender boats? Yes, it always does with tendering. You meet your tour group on the ship, and then the whole lot of you are escorted down to the tender platform for your trip ashore. celle Posted December 27, 2016 #20 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Would purchasing an official RCI shore excursion give you preference for the tender boats? Yes, for getting off the ship, but not for getting back on again.

Cant understand why it takes over 12 months to build the dolphin. It should be done over winter ready for next years season. I can accept his rationale about the need for a separate wharf out to the dolphin. Sydney would use their dolphin at the OPT far more than Auckland would use theirs and a small boat does fine

Sydney would use their dolphin at the OPT far more than Auckland would use theirs and a small boat does fine I agree, it seems the mayor should be more open to welcoming tourists no matter how they come to spend their money in the city. Sometimes I wonder why some people are so resistant to progress, especially if the benefits are so large and the detriments are so small. A dolphin being installed is such a minor disturbance to a working harbour.
