Gem questions

It's been a few years since I've cruised and have a few questions.. I've booked a balcony cabin.

Leaving from NYC on 3/19

can I bring booze on board?

If I want to eat at Haven, is it complimentary?

Do I need to make reservations for the specialty restaurants immediately on boarding?

I got this "free at sea" package that includes Unlimited Stateroom Phone Calls, 100 Minute Internet Package, Free Photo Package, and $50 Casino Promo Play.. So the unlimited calls? What the heck does that mean? Calls to shore or only on the ship?

I'm sure I'll have many more questions as the time grows closer..

thanks

1) https://www.ncl.com/faq#can-i-bring-alcohol-board

2) You do not have access to the Haven with you balcony cabin. There is no Haven restaurant on Gem anyway. https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/gem#whats-on-board

3) You can, though it's not required.

4) Unlimited Phone Calls:

Offer will be applied to the first guest in the stateroom. All guests in the stateroom will be able to utilize this offer. Offer only valid on calls made from ship to shore on the fixed phone located in the booked guest's stateroom and not from the guest's wireless devices. Subject to satellite availability onboard.

You should join your roll call - we are also sailing that day :)

The only booze you can bring, I believe, is two bottles of wine. You will be charged a corkage fee for both bottles. I believe its $15 each for regular size bottles.

If you are in a regular balcony cabin, you can't eat at Haven.

No, you can make reservations for the specialty restaurants anytime - as long as there is availability. From what I recall, only the Teppanyaki restaurant books up completely during the cruise. You may want to reserve that one ahead, or immediately upon boarding.

I had the same question about the free calls. Yes, you can make calls from your cabin phone to home.

I posted that same question yesterday - you can find it if you skim down the page.

I believe there is no limit to the quantity of bottles of wine you can bring aboard. But there is a corkage fee per bottle.

You're correct :)

Here's the info from NCL.com regarding bringing alcohol on board:

Can I bringing alcohol on board?

All guests are prohibited from bringing alcohol on board our ships.

Please note that with the exception of Wine and Champagne, all guests are prohibited from bringing alcohol on board our ships. If you purchase any alcohol at one of our ports-of-call or in our onboard shops, we will safely store your purchase(s) and either on the final night of the cruise or the morning of debarkation it will be available for pick up in a designated area.

Wine & Champagne Policy

Guests may bring bottles of wine and champagne on board. When bottles are brought on board and served or consumed in any restaurant, public room area or in their stateroom, a corkage fee will be charged according to bottle sizes noted below.

750 ml Bottle: $15.00

1,500 ml Magnum: $30.00

Wine or champagne sent directly to the ship by travel agents, friends, family, etc. or from another retail source, are subject to the same fees. Box wines are not allowed on board.

Thanks.. So that sounds like if I buy wine at any of the ports we stop at, I can bring them on board but not hard booze. I seem to recall that at some of the ports, there are liquor stores..

There are liquor stores at ALL ports :)

You can actually bring ANY kind of liquor on board from any port, and they will hold it for you until the last night of the cruise.

Any kind of liquor (wine or the hard stuff) you get in port or in the gift shop on board will be held until the end of the cruise for you.

How about the casino

Do the slots take cash?

Do the table games take cash?

Do they take travellers checks?

Do they take personal checks?

Do they take credit and/or debit cards?

Is there a list of what table games they have?

thanks

All sorts of games - even a claw game to grab cash. They even had a few slots in Bliss. Check my thread from mid-Dec. I included some pics I think of the casino as I ran through there. I have more I can post when I have time. Some might be blurry as I literally ran through there taking pics.

They also have:

If you gamble a decent amount and do not want to bring a bunch of cash, set up a line of credit. This will save you 3% in advance fees and $5.50 in atm fees if you go these routes.
