Planning to do some snorkelling on our cruise in April. I've got a good mask and snorkel are fins absolutely necessary? I'm no diver! and not planning on spending my days looking at wrecks etc so wondering if they are really necessary for basic stuff. I do have an under water camera so would like to get some shots of fish coral etc.

Thanks

I would never ever snorkel without fins. If you don't have fins, you will have to kick hard in order to move at all. Kicking hard scares away the fish. Also, if you are snorkeling where there is any current or surface movement, you might get pullled away from shore farther than you want. Fins keep you safe.

You can buy snorkeling fins for $30-50 at most sporting goods stores at home. Get some, better safe than sorry.

Fins are actually a safety device. Without them you really have a hard time maneuvering in any kind of current or wave action. I don't swim in the ocean without them. Period.

You can get short split fins that fit in a roll a board suitcase and do a great job. Or rent a pair.
