Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan and Victoria's immediate port area

My parents will be sailing the NCL Pearl to Alaska and will be visiting these ports. I am wondering if there's anything in the port areas? Any shops, and if each of them is within the reasonable walking distance to the "main" area? In other words, if they don't join any excursions, is there anything for them to do to occupy them for a couple hours?

Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan are all tiny, at least in relative terms. You dock pretty much right in town and there is plenty to do in all three no more than a 5 or 6 minute walk from the ship

The pier at Victoria is about a 20 to 30 minute walk from the center of town. Their usually is a shuttle bus to the downtown from the pier.

Agree, more than enough within an easy walk of the docks to keep someone busy for a couple of hours - or more. We've done cruises without a single excursion booked and had no problem entertaining ourselves with museums, self-guided walks etc.

Lots of shopping at all ports, but encourage them to select at least one excursion. Alaskan excursions can be pretty special.

Thoughts....

• in Juneau... the Pearl is using the AJ dock... it's about a mile from town. I hear there are shuttles.
  
• in Skagway.... the Broadway dock is 6 minute walk on Google Maps to the Red Onion or the entrance to town.
  
• in Ketchikan..... dock 3 is about 4 to 6 minutes walk to the downtown

Google <name of port> cruise ship schedule, and you should pretty quickly find a list. Of course, these are just schedules and are subject to change.

In a practical sense , all Alaskan port piers are usually about a 10 to 15 minute walk from town. Some piers have shuttles to the town.
