PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Aloha, Welcome to my live report. I am Bill from the Seattle area traveling with my wife Marie through the Hawaiian Islands on Radiance of the Seas. This is a cruise we have done before and we never get tired of it. I hope you don't as well. :D
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Once we board Radiance we will be staying in cabin 9092, a D1 balcony cabin just aft of the centrum elevators. A good central location with a deep balcony so hopefully with a lounge chair or two.
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted May 2, 2017 We actually arrived here on Oahu yesterday so I will take a few postings to get caught up. We flew out of Seattle yesterday morning on Alaska Air. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted May 2, 2017 A couple months ago I was able to bump us up to first class for just $100 each. I managed to keep that a secret from Marie till we got to the airport. Needless to say she was happy. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
britty1 Posted May 2, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Hi bill and Marie. Looking forward to your review, thanks for letting us go with you. Are you overnighting at the hale koa?
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Once we arrived in Honolulu and collected our luggage our ride with Go808express was already here and quickly drove us to our hotel, Hale Koa. This place is great for retired and active military. We have an ocean view room for about $130 a night. That is one of the reasons we extended our stay to 5 nights. It was grey and wet when we arrived but it is Hawai'i so who cares. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted May 2, 2017 With the wet weather we elected to eat dinner at the buffet here in the hotel. It was seafood night with plenty of crab and shrimp. That brings us to today which has been busy so far. It is Marie's birthday so we had to head over to Wailana Coffee House for macadamia nut pancakes. This was where I was living my Hawai'i 5-O fantasy as I have watched them wasting those delicious pancakes on the show. Clarea Posted May 2, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Thanks for the fish Bill. Always a pleasant sight for us as we love Seattle. I know I'm getting ahead of your story, but I'm curious how you will get from Vancouver back to Seattle?

We've done it before, just roll off the ship and into a car then off to the border. Not sure why but it cost us a little more this year ($80). Usually it has been $55 to $60. But it is still the cheapest and most comfortable way home for us. :D
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #13 Share Posted May 2, 2017 This is frustrating. The Tapatalk app is not letting me put spaces or text between the pictures. [emoji22] Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #15 Share Posted May 2, 2017 After breakfast we headed over to the Starbucks at the Waikiki Trade Center. The recently opened Hawaii's first Reserve bar and since Starbucks had been my employer for 20 years I had ty stop in. Bought a delicious iced Clover brewed Rwanda Maraba. I figured out the spacing problem. [emoji2] Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted May 2, 2017 We headed back to the hotel then used Uber to head over to the Iolani Palace where we had reservations for the self guided tour at noon. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #17 Share Posted May 2, 2017 The palace was the home of Hawaii's last reigning monarchs and served as the official royal residence until the United States overthrew the monarchy I 1893. The cornerstone for Iolani Palace was laid on December 31, 1879 and was competed in 1882. The Grand Hall runs the entire width of the palace with a large staircase made of Hawaiian koa wood. PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #20 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Beautifully carved sliding doors mark the entrance into the State Dining Room. The room features a crimson theme with floor-to-ceiling windows, koa wood furnishings, elegant Bohemian crystal and Paris porcelain, and a massive floral carpet. PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #21 Share Posted May 2, 2017 The Throne Room is near the Grand Hall and lavishly decorated in crimson and gold. As the largest room in the Palace, King Kalakaua held formal audiences, diplomatic receptions and state balls here. The trial of Queen Liliuokalani also occurred in this room Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #22 Share Posted May 2, 2017 The second floor Music Room, or Gold Room, was a gathering place for the royal family, who enjoyed composing, playing, and listening to music and song Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #23 Share Posted May 2, 2017 King Kalakaua’s library is where he spent much of his time. The king was fluent in French, English and Hawaiian and the various objects in this room demonstrate his interest in modern technology. PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #24 Share Posted May 2, 2017 Queen Kapiolani’s bedroom was originally furnished with mahogany furniture and red curtains and upholstery. Many of the pieces in both her room and King Kalakaua’s were sold in a series of auctions that were held to pay off debts after the King’s death and are still being sought after today. PCWalton1 Posted May 2, 2017 Author #25 Share Posted May 2, 2017 King Kalakaua’s Suite is one of the private rooms located on the second floor. His bedroom was designed with a mixture of gothic-revival Asian and European furnishings. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
