ne1travel Posted May 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2017 Looking to do LA to Ft Lauderdale Panama cruise Dec 2018. Anybody stay in E736? Wondering how the corner Balcony is and if any problems with noise. Any other Balcony suggestions would be welcome. Colo Cruiser Posted May 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Looking to do LA to Ft Lauderdale Panama cruise Dec 2018. Anybody stay in E736? Wondering how the corner Balcony is and if any problems with noise. Any other Balcony suggestions would be welcome. Thanks We did the same cruise. In laws were in E736 and we were in E734. You also have the aft viewing area right outside your door as well. (see photo below where people standing and blue decking is) Great location. No noise and great views! We were able to touch the sides of the canal from the balcony. :) Here is a great website. http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/Princess/odell/res76zxu/princessbalconies/index.html
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2017 I think if I were doing an eastbound transit I would prefer to be on the starboard side. EM
ne1travel Posted May 21, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted May 21, 2017 I think if I were doing an eastbound transit I would prefer to be on the starboard side. EM EM, just wondering what the advantage is on starboard. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Forums
skynight Posted May 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Been through the Canal 4 times. Starboard cabins really have no viewing advantages while transiting. The best views are from the upper and other open decks where you can move around and get 360 degree views. Also, you never know which of the parallel locks the ship will actually enter. The best views are not from your balcony. If you stay in your cabin remember to turn on the TV to be able to hear the narration. The ship may make a direct run through both the Pacific and Atlantic locks, or it may sit in Gatun Lake for a while. The Sun While sailing from L.A. to the canal the port side will get the morning sun while starboard will get the afternoon sun. During the transit the morning sun will mainly be on the starboard side and overhead as the transit will be SE to NW in direction. Port side may get some sun at the end of the transit, it really depends on the transit schedule. In the Caribbean starboard side will get sun mostly all day until the ship turns north to FL. Hope this information is useful.
ne1travel Posted May 21, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted May 21, 2017 Very helpful sknight. Not huge sun people anymore so this helps-Thanks. Do not plan to be only in cabin/Balcony during transit but to move around. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 21, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 21, 2017 I totally agree with sknight about moving about the ship during the transit. I have done two full eastbound transits with an OV cabin. And one partial in a balcony. But for a person that thought they would spend the transit on their balcony, I would go starboard. The port side might be of some advantage when approaching the new Cocoli Locks (if the occupant is up that early) because they can be seen to port:: View from bridgecam of Crystal Symphony. Coming under Bridge of the Americas, the white ships to the port side are waiting to enter Cocoli Locks. Miraflores Locks are around the bend to the right Closer view: Progressing through Miraflores, and into Pedro Miguel, you can see the channel to Cocoli off port side But most people consider the activity on the starboard side when going through the locks to be more interesting. Unless you are in the outer lane and have a large container ship next to you... Going through Gatun Locks, there really isn't much view from the port side.
