No Cozumel 12-18 Mariner

Voyager class ships are not going to Cozumel since they are unable to provide their own tender service. These were the exact words per Capt. Johnny (11/13 sailing). Costa Maya can only accept a few ships per day, and with the current ships scheduled to be there, imagine what it would be like to have a Voager class ship there as well. Also, how bad can it be to have another day like Labadee in Coco Kay?

I too am on the Mariner 12/18 sailing and while CocoCay is very nice it could be cold in the Bahamas and would more than likely be hotter in Cozumel. We don't want a private island day if it is too cold to swim. I booked a Caribbean cruise not a Bahamas cruise. I could have booked a Bahamas cruise for much cheaper. I would have much preferred Labadee where it is warmer. if the the Voyager ships can be diverted the other ships could be diverted also so people booking a Caribbean cruise actually spend the majority of the time there ,not in the Bahamas.

Ships other than Voyager class ships are being diverted that week as well. Our Rhapsody cruise sailing the same day as you got shifted from Costa Maya to Progreso so it could accommodate ships that had been diverted from Cozumel.

I think the reason you are going to CocoCay instead of Labadee is distance issues. From Miami, Labadee requires at least one day to get there. From Port Canaveral it is even farther. So you would need at least one sea day after you visit Labadee to get back to Port Canaveral. Same thing with Grand Cayman. Labadee requires at least one sea day to get there from Grand Cayman. There just isn't enough time in a 5-night cruise from Port Canaveral to get to Grand Cayman then to Labadee and back to Port Canaveral.

As to the tendering issue, Cozumel is a tender port now anyways so there is the same likelihood of not being able to stop there now as any other tender port. In fact, I think a sailing in the last week was unable to stop at Cozumel due to weather. When Cozumel was a docked port, you didn't have as much problems. I'm sure now that it is a tender port you will hear a lot more stories of ships not being able to stop there due to weather.

Both of our ports are tender ports

(Grand Cayman and CocoCay) We run the risk of not getting any ports for a five day cruise. i would be very disappointed with that!

Yeah, it could happen! But, just being on the ship, would be bettr than being home!!

I celebrated when a sea day was added and not another port. Hate missing Cozumel, but I love sea days!
I like sea days but we have two already on a five day cruise and I have two teens who hate sea days and will be bored with more and drive dh and I crazy. And no I don't want to leave them home I love my kids and want a family vacation. We all just want some warm port stops.

Yes, to warm water in December/January! :) - Bummer about the two tender ports. I have family going on my Mariner cruise (one in a wheel chair and one with a cain) - Two of our three ports are tender ports - not too much fun for us just getting off the boat. But we will do our best!

Does anyone know if RCI still uses their lifeboats as tenders to shore? When we tendered in GC last year on the Carnival Victory, we saw one of the RCI ships busily shuttling their passengers back and forth on their lifeboats. What a novel idea!!

Just wondered if the Legend would be one to use their lifeboats when we get to Coz.

Hi, I also am bringing a teen, age 14, and just hope there is enough planned for her. How old are your teens? On 3 previous times I have not been able to get into GC due to rough seas, hope my luck is better this trip.

Yes, THe legend uses it's lifeboats to tender. There are 4 lifeboats on that ship that are designed as tenders (As well as the rest of the Vision Class).

The voyager class does NOT have any lifeboats that double as tenders, all just plain lifeboats.

Unless I am missing something I would think RCCL makes a lot more money by going to Coco Cay. A few thousand people spending money on the cruise lines concessions instead of at some other island must be quite profitable.

I think the biggest concern would be cold weather that far north. If you pick a cruise because you want to go far south giving you the greatest odds of warm weather it must be disappointing to be rerouted so far north.

Yes I know it is great to just be on a cruise, RCCL does not guarantee port stops, the people of Cozumel have gone through a terrible situation, unrest in the middle east, third world hunger and the Cubs still haven't gotten to the World series in my life time.

Why couldn't Royal Caribbean find a port more in the spirit of a Caribbean cruise? If there is no space at the alternate ports the other cruise lines found why didn't Royal Caribbean act sooner. It appears that given the tender problems with Cozumel not being able to accomodate a ship this

size that Royal Caribbean knew of this issue as soon as it was known the piers were destroyed.

I think when the captain announces they will not be able to stop at Coco Cay because of weather the ship will then go to Nassau.

Glad to learn that another 14 year old is on board, with school still on in many places was not sure how many teens would be able to sail. Hope teen club is all that I have heard. Due to drop in price since I booked back in April I was able to get a nice refund yesterday on my credit card in case you are interested. Not too happy about cooler weather we may encounter but what can you do ?

Bribrittmom,

How did you get a refund? I checked our D1 cabin rates and they haven't changed. Haven't you already made final payment? Could you please give me some advice on a possible refund? By the way... we have a DD who is 16 (junior in HS) who is hesitant about going to the teen clubs. I hope she will change her mind or else she may be forced to spend time alone! My other DD, 10 is looking forward to the planned activities. DH and I plan to do some "adult" things like the casino and wine bar, so I hope DS16 will make some friends! See you on the Mariner... by the way I have an Aunt and Uncle who live in Canton!

Then just stay on ship and make your on "sea" day. That's what I'm doing when my Rhapsody cruise stops in Progreso instead of Costa Maya.

I would if I were in the position of the people on this sailing. Fortunately, we are sailing on the 23rd and Cozumel is not on our agenda. We were originally scheduled to spend Christmas in Cozumel and because of Wilma changed our plans to a cruise.

I understand the disappointment of those who planned on Cozumel. It is my most favorite vacation place.

I hope all of you enjoy your cruise.

Judy

It was letusgo who got the refund. I have a DS 16 who also is hesitant about the teen clubs but would probably like to meet your daughter.I just hope we get at least two ports so the kids don't get bored.
