Questions Regarding Overnight in Cabo

Just a few questions that I am wondering about…

Does the ship actually stay in port overnight in Cabo or does it leave and go out to sea? Do the casinos open while it is there overnight? Will they still show movies under the stars while in port?

Thank you!

Ship stays.

Yes on MUTS.

Not sure about the casino.

Yes, the ship stays at anchor in the port. Tenders run until Midnight or 1am (can't remember the exact time) and resume early (5 or 6am) in the morning.

Yes, MUTS will have movies.

As I remember regarding the casino, the ship is in port. Casino and shops are closed.

Which one are you on? I'm on the Ruby 2/16/18 overnight. :)

My husband and I did the Cabo overnight this past April on the Ruby. It is a tender port and the tenders ran most of the night. Casino and stores were closed but there was MUTS. Other than the casino and stores, everything else seemed to be business as usual.

Thank you! We can live without the casino being open but I will say that I am happy about the yes on MUTS. It would be really nice to watch a movie and not freeze while doing so :D

Thank you, Pam. I'm not sure why but I thought that the ship would leave port and then return in the morning.

I won't know for sure until tomorrow but we are looking at the Ruby 2/17/18 overnight. Does it leave the 16th or 17th? It looks like we may be on the same ship. :)

I really hope it works out for us because I love going to Cabo during whale season. I'm ready for a little warm weather MUTS too.

Yes that information is correct. I was also on the Ruby. Tenders ran all night but late at night we were told that they were available as needed.

Casino & shops are not allowed to be opened in port regardless of where the ship is, at a pier or anchored in the bay.

Even when docked at Bermuda? Princess ships usually have Bermuda registration. I recall sailing to Bermuda from NYC on board the Caribbean Princess. The shops and the casino remained open while docked in Bermuda.

Do you know which would be best for the overnight in Cabo… Port or Starboard? I'm not sure yet if we will get a balcony or not but if we do we would like to face the ocean side so we can look for whales. :)
The ship will rotate around the anchor. We did an Ultimate Balcony Dinner during and overnight in Cabo in a port side mini-suite. We started the evening barely able to see El Arco and the port side was probably facing SSE. As our meal progressed, the ship rotated clockwise and by the end of our 2-1/2 hour meal we had a great view of the lights of Cabo and the port side was facing NNW or about a 180 degree rotation.

The ship did rotate around when we were there so what side was not very important. As far as seeing whales, that's a bit of a crap shoot. Depends on if they come around that close to the ship while it is anchored. We didn't see any, but, we were there pretty early in the season for seeing many whales.

Also, as far as the tenders, the schedule will be in the Patter. When we were there the tenders ran until midnight and then stopped. They started again about 6 am in the morning and ran until about an hour before we left.

The weather and view was great for the UBD. When we booked the cruise the itinerary included a stop in Mazatlan that was cancelled due to safety concerns. That is when the overnight in Cabo was added. We only got off for a couple of hours on the afternoon of the first day. When we take a Mexico cruise we mainly stay on the ship, even on port days.

The best part of the stop in Cabo was the departure. A group of people had missed the last tender as the Sapphire was starting to get underway. We noticed looking down from our mini suite balcony that one of the tender docks was still out as the ship started to move. Shortly a private tender pulled up and matched the Sapphire's speed. A handful of people jumped off the tender and onto the tender dock as both ships were moving. Never saw that before or since [emoji33]

Strangely enough, this is EXACTLY what Carnival did when we did an overnight in Cabo with them. Everyone had to be back really early too, like 6pm. I thought this was very lame and I was glad Princess does not do it this way. I would have preferred later tenders though, I think the last tender was only 12:30am, could have stayed longer at Cabo Wabo.

I was probably thinking of Carnival's itinerary.
