We did it again - booked a cruise to be in port during a public holiday.

Does anyone know what will be open in Ketchikan on Labour Day (Monday 4th September 2017)? Will the main souvenir shops and tourist attractions be open? Is there a surcharge for services on public holidays?

Tourism is major business in Ketchikan. I would expect everything to be open and functioning just like any other day during cruise season.

Agreed. If you're there, they'll be there. The only exception might be at the very ends of the season - we did an Alaska Sampler two years ago and were on the first ship to arrive in Ketchikan. The town was NOT ready for us; only 50% of the shops were truly ready. However, I think the next ship wasn't due in for at least two days, and it would take about a week before they had a multi-ship day, so they had time to get ready. If I remember correctly, our first cruise put us into Ketchikan on Labor Day 2010, and there were no signs to us that the town was asleep.
