woozles Posted August 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 31, 2017 Long story short : son is expecting his first child. due date is 9 days after own return. If mom should go into early labor or have end of pregnancy complications would the normal 'family member medical emergency clause' cover cancellation or should we spend $75 more for cancel for any reason. Cruise lines will let you on board up to a certain date a letter from your Doctor. Most cruise line will not let you cruise after 24 weeks on embarkation. woozles Posted August 31, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted August 31, 2017 Son and mom-to-be are not cruising. I am actually speaking in regards to our possible cancellation as grandparents due to early labor or other pregnancy complications.
Kamloops50 Posted August 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2017 Son and mom-to-be are not cruising. I am actually speaking in regards to our possible cancellation as grandparents due to early labor or other pregnancy complications. As grandparents of four, take the time to rest . There will not much time after. With Cancel for Any Reason check how much they cover. Some policies only cover 50% or 80%. We cruise Princess and their highest level does 100%. We used last spring and paperwork was very simple.
Rare cruiselvr04 Posted September 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Woozles. We had to change a cruise date as it was too close to the Grandbabys due date. We just didn't want to take the chance and miss it. Otherwise I would pay the extra cancel for any reason. And what if it happens while you re gone? Are you okay with getting there a week later? I don't think any insurance except maybe Nationwide will let you return home for any reason. Changing the trip date to at least a month before or after baby is due will be better and improve your chances of actually taking your trip. We postponed that cruise for 13 months. Lol we may never go on that cruise if the kids keep having babies. We want to be around for those moments.
SG65CB Posted September 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2017 You would need to read the insurance certificate to see exactly what is covered by your specific policy. Since the childbirth is not unforeseen most won't cover it. I just checked a few and some even specifically exclude or include childbirth as a covered reason. For example this is from a policy, but note the time restriction: You or Your Traveling Companion are attending the childbirth of Your Family Member, provided the pregnancy occurs after Your Effective Date for Trip Cancellation, as verified by medical records. if not specifically covered they would probably tell you that it was not unforeseen, therefore not covered. woozles Posted September 20, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted September 20, 2017 Thank you for the replies. I had not realized that you have to buy cancel for any reason so soon after first payment, so that is out. Other policies, it appears as though they will not cover cancellation for that reason. We cannot really schedule an earlier cruise, although we would like to. We have been chatting with the expectant couple and between ourselves. We have about a month to make a decision. Rare Keith1010 Posted October 5, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 5, 2017 The idea is a good one but as mentioned you have to read the policy you are considering to be sure it covers this. Keith
