mina Posted October 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2017 Wondering if some of the frequent flyers can help here. We are flying from ath to phx with a connect in Ams on a delta ticket. We fly Klm metal from ath to ams on a 6 am flight. Delta website is indicating to be at airport three hours in advance of international flights to the USA to handle additional screening. So, will we go thru the additional screening in Ams or in Athens? If ATHENS, will the KLM desk even be open at 3am? Our connection time in AMS is current 2 hours and 20 mins. Thoughts? Rare PaulMCO Posted October 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2017 The additional screen is required as a result of New USA requirements for flights from overseas. Expect some additional attention if you have a PC or large DSLR camera. Your transit time in AMS is plenty.
cruising cockroach Posted October 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I wouldn't get to ATH much before 0500 otherwise you will have a long, boring wait. As said, the enhanced screening will be at AMS. I haven't been there since the security system was changed (used to be at gate, now centralised). There is supposed to be a dedicated area for U.S. departures and that is where the additional screening will be. The other thing to watch for is water bottles. They'll take away anything you buy (or refill) airside if over the limit.

It's your flight from AMS to the US that would have the additional screening. Airlines routinely suggest arriving at the airport 3 hours early for international flights, but I'd be very surprised if the KLM counter is staffed for check-in at 3am in ATH.
